He's still in the top ten sires on the general sire list even without any grade 1 wins.

i voted hansen, only because we shipped him off without even giving him a chance here. that seems to be what makes stallions suddenly successful here, lol.

They have a buyback clause if his first crop is successful.

The selective part is only for the Breed Secure option, which is $12,500. Maybe they think that he fits a certain type of mare better than another.

“Breed Secure is a program we also started last year with Into Mischief, and after seeing the positive effects we have decided to offer it almost across the board on our stallions,” Hughes added. “I believe it’s a far superior alternative to foal sharing, and maybe it will eventually replace foal sharing in the industry. Breed Secure allows commercial breeders to breed a mare to a stallion of their choice without having any risk as it relates to the stud fee. When that breeder goes to sale, if he or she doesn’t make a reasonable profit then not a dime of the stud fee will be owed to Spendthrift. Hopefully there is a tremendous profit made at sale, and when that happens, he or she would only be responsible for paying back the stud fee and not a dime more.”

I think I'm more disgusted at Daredevil for $12500 or Carpe Diem at $25000 when there are proven sires like Bellamy Road for $7500 or Congrats for $10k in the same shed row.

I was expecting 100ish for Pioneerof The Nile, but $125,000 minimum  Considering he would be sitting 85th in the general rankings if it weren't for Pharoah, who is his only G1 winner.

Congrats for $20,000 is a steal. Bellamy Road is also solid at $7500.
So many better stallions to go to for $25,000 other than Carpe Diem.

I agree. It's stupid.

Then again who am I to say. It's commercialism.
