I agree, too. At least this coming breeding season. He's a hot commodity since his success after he left so people are going to want to get on that bandwagon right away. I honestly wouldn't be surprised at $100+. He SHOULD stand for more than American Pharoah, and people were estimating $100-150K for him.

The odd prospect of having 3 generations at $100k or above stud fee is just... wow. Can anyone think of another grandsire/sire/son lineup who commanded the fees these 3 might get next year? I'm trying to think if AP Indy or Storm Cat had something like this?

Rumors abound that POtN will stand at $100k next season. What will Pharoah command? I think if he retired today he would be set around $125k. Another loss possibly tarnishes him to $100k. Coolmore isn't afraid to seemingly "overprice"... maybe he stands for $125k anyway?

Now we have the return of the King. Empire Maker... sold from out under the breeders. A sire of sires. Able to get a big colt or filly. Purplest blood in the books. I think he could easily be set at $150k and book full.

We know that POtN can sire a Triple Crown winner, but AP is still an unknown as far as what he can get. 100k for POtN next season wouldn't surprise me. But I sort of doubt that AP will make it all the way to 125k strictly on the strength of being a TC Champion.

Take away AP and PoTN dips pretty far down that list. How do you get $100k based off one horse?

The economics of stud fees fascinates me.

He'll get more mares that show similar pedigree to AP's dam, as the breeders try to figure out what the successful nick was.

I think AP's fee came down significantly when they announced EM was coming home. I saw him standing at $150k+ but now I don't think he will be higher than $100k. PoTN will be $100-125k. He will probably dip two or three years from now as it's unlikely he'll sire anything close to AP again.

Empire Maker was very much a "what could have been" type colt. He looked like any kind after his 2YO year and everyone expected big things as we rolled into that 3YO spring. He had bad feet, I believe, and Bobby Frankel was never able to get him to prove out to his full potential. Frankel said this was his Triple Crown winner, but he had such bad feet and he was always hobbled in that way. He was whisked away to stud after faltering after the Belmont win (where he stopped Funny Cide) and losing to Strong Hope in the Jim Dandy.

Wonder whether Cape Cross' fee will increase for next year after siring 2 Derby-Arc winners? He is 21 by now so his books will be limited I expect.

Saw that one coming from a mile away!

Also, apparently Adena Springs' stallions Alphabet Soup and Touch Gold have been pensioned and will be sent to Old Friends. Haven't seen an official release though.
