I feel bad for hip 786. Malibu Moon o/o a stakes winning Distorted Humor mare. Sold for 15k, no one signs his ticket and he's reoffered just now and sold for 22k. You'd think he'd bring more, poor fella. He was pretty. Maybe a bad scope, or a conformational fault? :?

Malibu Moon's babies don't look very popular these days. I remarked they tend to sold pretty low?

He's probably having a slightly cold year, if I had to guess. I'm surprised his service fee next year is staying at 95k.

Correcting myself, was a filly. But she was RNA (unsurprisingly). I was surprised by the lack of interest, I wonder what was wrong with her.

I just looked up the dam's pedigree wow!

Seattle Slew as a sire - dam sire is Secretariat and on the bottom she goes to Northern Dancer through Vice Regent as well as Buckpasser.

There must not be too many of these running around.

Looking at the Summery, it seems like there are a LOT of RNA's today.

Not many remaining with those names close up, but it's a fairly common combination of lines.

I was curious so I dug up that filly's page: http://apps.keeneland.com/sales/Sep15/pdfs/774.pdf

I think part of the answer is the dam's produce record. She's had 7 foals of racing age, which is plenty of chances to come up with something. However, only 4 of them raced, only 2 of them won, and there aren't any stakes placings (or even dams of stakes placed) to speak of. The best foal they can mention has won the grand total of $27,133. (And he's by Tapit, so it's not like she hasn't had chances.) Basically it looks like her dam either isn't passing down any talent, or her foals have physical issues. She's nicely bred but isn't producing anything.

The filly's page looks to have plenty of black type, but on a closer look, very little of it is recent, and much of it is in lesser leagues. The dam's one impressive sibling won his black type in Dubai. The third dam has the best produce record on the page, so it looks a bit like this branch of the family is declining. I think there's enough pedigree there that if this filly was quite impressive-looking, she might have sold decently, but not enough to carry her if she doesn't look great or has medical issues.

That said, I'm not a bloodstock agent; I'm just taking my best guess :)

The mare has 7 foals of racing age, 4 starters, 2 winners, both of which only won one race. The 4 starters have like $72,000 in total earnings and strangely enough are her 4 foals that sold at Keeneland. They sold for $1,915,000. She was bred to Seeking The Gold(twice), Distorted Humor, Smart Strike, Dynaformer, Tapit, and War Front, so they definitely put the money in good stallions. Besides Ask Me No Secrets, who is a G3SW, the page is kind of light under the first 2 dams. Once you get to the 3rd dam there are quite a few Stakes producers. If there had been a promising runner under the first two dams, the filly may have met her reserve. Its a nice family but with the lack of promising runners from the dam, I can see why she didn't sell.

I knew there had to be something :P but since I am at work I didn't have the luxury to check myself and dig into it.
Also yes I meant many of these mares with those lines up close like that. It feels a little weird looking at her pedigree, like glancing into a time capsule or something, it is pretty neat.

Yup. It makes me sad that turf lines are not really popular in the USA *sigh*

958 is a heck of a pretty pony...dark brown colt by Hard Spun out of a stakes-winning St. Liam mare. Not a lot of St. Liam's out there, sadly.
$180,000.

I believe Orb was his last Grade 1 winner? If so, that's 2 1/2 years sans Gr. 1 winners.....and he's stood for a good fee and seen very nice mares. If anything they should have continued to improve after Orb, but that's not the case.
His current top performer is a 3yr old Argentinian Grade 2 winner....

Seems to be going to way of Forestry....hot.....great auction sales.....then nadda....
