Let's pretend for a moment that horse sushi really is mainstream in Japan. (Hint: It's not.) Your comments are still in poor taste. It is extremely poor manners to make derogatory remarks on an individual who has as yet given no indication that the horses will be sent to slaughter. What happened to the American "innocent until proven guilty"?Secretariat4ever wrote:LOL! the ignorant are calling me ignorant....Thoroughbred and draft horses are being bred in Canada for exportation to Japan for sushi.

In Peru, some people eat guinea pigs. In France, frog legs are considered excellent eating. In England rabbits are considered quite tasty. All of these countries consider these animals "delicacies". Yet, I do not see many saying the English and the Peruvians are "barbarians" for eating what Americans consider exclusively pets.
You are a bigot of the first order.
P.S. I can't believe you dare to vilify the Japanese when the United States has among the highest number of breakdowns and among the highest number of horses sent to slaughter

Gosh, folks, they do eat horse sushi in Japan. Look it up. It's not bigoted to point it out either. Particularly on a forum where we're supposed to love horses. I'd add "and are against horse slaughter" but we've been down that road and sadly, many racing fans aren't against horse slaughter.
It may've been a bad joke, or even maybe rude, but I'm not sure if you all would've taken offense if someone said "Ikea meatballs" or "ground beef in Florida" as those are places where horsemeat has been found in the U.S. It's just been unwittingly eaten instead of a choice.

I think we're all aware that horse meat is commonly eaten in other countries, from Japan to Europe. And that even in the US, where it is not, our horses still get shipped to Mexican or Canadian abattoirs.
However, I'm pretty sure that the bloodstock from a high quality breeding operation like Tosho Bokujo is headed for a dispersal sale, not a slaughterhouse.

I'm sure other Japanese breeders are happy to have the chance to add some classy bloodstock to their own programs. And while it is a shame that the farm is leaving the business, it might also be a good opportunity for breeders outside of Japan (Aus, US, etc) to acquire some good broodmares and prospects.

Of all the mares to take from 'Banner's hit-or-miss fertility, it's wonderful that Makybe Diva was one. That filly is lovely.
