Mocha Joe at Slate Hill Farm

He's a bit of a mystery, obviously he wasn't much of a racehorse and hasn't been much of a breeding stallion (pretty much a backyard breeder). The last report of mares bred submitted for him was for the 2013 foal crop, and no foals were ever registered, but yesterday I found four foals of the five mares he bred up for sale on Dreamhorse, unregistered. I know I'm probably the only person on the planet that noticed (because he's a son of MDO). I just wonder if he had any foals this year, since those breeding were never reported. I wonder what sort of fees a person would have to pay to register a yearling, or a foal whose breeding wasn't even reported. Again, I know this is probably only interesting to me. I did try contacting the seller of those foals, but don't expect to hear anything since I'm not looking to buy, I'm just ever curious for info for my blog.

Well, some digging has revealed that Mocha Joe has passed away.

Strange. He is listed to have had a Mares Bred Report from 2010 to 2012, nothing for 2013 and 2014. There isn't a 2013 on record with the Jockey Club.
He has three foals from the 2012 crop, but nothing from the previous two years. Colts from Lively Lita and Pretty Quiet, and a filly from Girl of Mine.

He's basically had three foal crops.
2011 - 1 foal, who died the same year
2012 - 3 foals
2013 - 5 mares were bred, I've found that at least 4 foals were born but not registered
Assumingly Mocha Joe died in 2012 or early 2013, as I understand it the 2013s are his last foals. It would be nice if they would be registered, because at least then there'd be a slight chance of following them. Sometimes I wish I had more space, in my dreams I'd own a whole bunch of MDO descendants.
