Does anyone know what the heck happened? They were supposed to be up and back running in the early part of the year- message now says they ran into some troubles with their beta testing- but that message has been up since at least Feb.

I thought they were completely dead? If not, the only thing they could possibly do is run some type of online news service. But there is no money in that.

I'd say they are finished, but that's just a guess.

They had announced, before the Breeders Cup last year, that they were coming back to do online news. They even had a countdown on their webpage for when they were going live again. But there hasn't been any updates since then.

"They" didn't. The person who bought the rights to the name in the bankruptcy auction did. It may eventually be resurrected in some fashion (I have no idea), but it will have no connection to the original entity of the same name.

That's what was meant by these posts, "they" being whoever was resurrecting it. I got the idea from reading what little they released last year that it was an attempt to recreate TT as something closer to HRN, where there would be lots of contributors but no regular staff. They took the countdown off the site (thoroughbredtimes.com/), and it doesn't seem that anyone has heard anything since.

No problem, just clarifying on the off-chance there was a misunderstanding. When I hear "they" and "Thoroughbred Times" in the same sentence, it means the the pre-bankruptcy incarnation and that group of people. The person who bought the rights is, to me, not "Thoroughbred Times." It's something different. I think they'd do better trying to launch a site with a new name, but I guess that defeats the purpose of paying the money for it.

Just wandered over there- the message now says " hope to be back online in time for the 2015 breeding season"- did enjoy reading it in the past.

I used to have print subscriptions to both the Times and the old Thoroughbred Record magazine. Miss them both.
