everything about this is just so horribly sad... it was tweeted that she passed 'peacefully' and i hope that is in fact true, but find it hard to believeRugbyGirl wrote: ↑Sat Aug 17, 2024 12:16 am Just been announced that Black Caviar has passed away from laminitis. It sounds like they knew this was gonna happen & induced her labor & euthanized her shortly after. regardless, it sounds absolutely horrible for everyone involved

i asked abt induced labour once and was told it's pretty much never done due to how important the foal's position is. i didn't read that they had done so, i just assumed they babied her along til due day.Holly1972 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 17, 2024 4:03 pmlurkey mclurker wrote: ↑Sat Aug 17, 2024 3:19 pmeverything about this is just so horribly sad... it was tweeted that she passed 'peacefully' and i hope that is in fact true, but find it hard to believeRugbyGirl wrote: ↑Sat Aug 17, 2024 12:16 am Just been announced that Black Caviar has passed away from laminitis. not that either scenario ends without her passing. what miserable news to log in to. so, so sorry for her connections.

With the fact she devolved laminitis the end of her suffering was probably the most peaceful part

Well Aug 1 is when all southern Hemisphere horses celebrate there birthdays, like jan 1 for northern Hemisphere. Her last foal was born in August 2023 on Black Caviars birthday. So this foal was early but it depends on the cover date

That’s sad—he was only 59. I thought he did a nice job of carrying on her legacy.

Bad wreck today at Thistledown, Chargina euthanized, and Ferrin Petersen was sent to the hospital. No updates on her condition yet, but it looked terrible.
Edited to add: TDN now has an update that she broke her collarbone.
