Cape Canaveral, One of Mr. Prospector's Last Sons, Dies

Highfield Stock Farm announced Sept. 9 the death of stallion Cape Canaveral at the farm in Alberta, Canada. He was euthanized at age 26 after having treatment to battle severe cellulitis, the farm indicated.

One of the leading sires in Canada since 2008, Cape Canaveral was a foundation sire for Highfield. He sired three graded winners, 21 black-type winners, and 315 winners of 1,080 races from 20 overall crops, 19 of which are of racing age. His progeny earned over $17.8 million.

Evie Stockwell, mother of John Magnier and horsewoman, has passed at 97. She passed very shortly after her twin sister, Lady Mimi Manton.

Stallion National Defense (Invincible Spirit x Angel Falls) has died suddenly, age 8, at Widden Farm in Australia.

He won the (G1) Prix Jean Luc Lagardere and is the sire of Breeders' Cup winner Twilight Gleaming. He previously stood at the National Stud in Ireland.

No cause of death has been released.

That's really bad luck. He wasn't able to stand at the Irish National Stud in 2022 because he sustained an injury while covering mares in Australia last year.

That’s a whole lot of speculation of what would happen if the horse was in another barn.

I always find it odd when people get mad when horses die and they aren’t told immediately.

Yeah, I don’t know what to think. I never heard of the guy who tweeted on 8/28...and there’s no actual proof. I suspect it’s true, but I hope it’s not..

I think people speculate and even get mad because bad things can happen to horses, and those responsible prefer to hide what happened.
I don't blame people for ending up fearing the worst.....because too often they are right.

I can’t imagine the pain the horses were in being injected in their front legs so much and getting infected. And dying from it and he’s got the gall to buy a Medina spirit memorial lol. Yet people still defend him just as trashy as he is. But I don’t doubt bob started the injections and then when he moved to Todd’s barn probably didn’t know how bad it was and went to give him something and boom

The Deputy (Petardia x Manfath) passed away on Sunday, September 18 at the age of 25. He won the 2000 Santa Anita Derby.

He stood in Michigan, Kentucky, Ohio, and Iowa, before somehow winding up in a kill pen in 2021. He was rescued and sent to live at Remember Me Rescue in Texas.

IMO, he probably had the most interesting pedigree of any stallion in the USA. He was a half-brother to King Kamehameha.
