Dammit...colic has been taking too many horses lately. Hate to lose such a beautifully-bred son of Giant's Causeway.

Souper Scoop, 2011 mare (Tapit - Scoop, by Gone West)
dam of G1p Soup and Sandwich. Not sure what happened to her but when looking at the reason for Into Mischief's Report of Mares bred being Pending it said she had been reported dead in 2022.

well he doesn't have a death report (those don't need to be submitted, i'm only mentioning it as that's the most "reliable" option to confirm a death but there are other ways), but i don't see why someone would lie about that. Cezanne only worked 2× for Pletcher and hasn't worked since 4/30, so it would fit the "in a matter of weeks" description. op probably heard it from a trusted source but like i said since there is no death report, it's hard for us to "confirm" itNenikikamen23 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 28, 2022 12:14 pm Cezanne according to Twitter, can anyone confirm?

If he died today or last evening he probably wouldn't already have a death report.

The same guy who injected Lord Nelsons front legs so much that got infections which led to his first bout of laminitis and retirement and then his second bout of it which led to his death masterful? The same guy who let a colt die from untreated pneumonia in his stall? Hes a master? And before anyone asks, yes i have insider info im not telling my sources though or ill lose themNenikikamen23 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 28, 2022 12:14 pm Cezanne according to Twitter, can anyone confirm?

In a later reply thread, the poster said Cezanne died over a month ago. He also said it was due to "injury, infection, and founder."
Since Cezanne would have been in Pletcher's care at the time, I checked the NYRA database and couldn't find anything. That source also typically includes deaths that occur at Rood & Riddle for complications from colic, laminitis, etc. Then again, maybe Cezanne wasn't in NY at all.
I wish I knew where else to look, but I can't seem to find anything.
While I was searching, I learned that Answer In from the 2020 KY Derby Trail also died this year.

just a tip, if you change "Results.cfm" to "Workouts.cfm" on the link to a horse profile in Equibase, you will be able to see their works from more than 60 days ago if the horse doesn't have a Workout tab in their page anymore

don't know if this fits here, but Champion QH (2019 2YO Gelding) Trump My Record unfortunately died yesterday following a match race, presumably from a heart attack. Hotstepper, who was third in the 2017 All American Futurity and in the 2019 Champion of Champions, also died a few races earlier.

ICYMI, PETA published an investigation into illegal match racing earlier this month. i do not support them at all, but this Washington Post article based on said investigations is a must-read: https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2 ... g-georgia/. there's also this .pdf written by PETA themselves, with more extensive info and links: https://www.peta.org/wp-content/uploads ... dacted.pdf

That sad news definitely fits here. I can't help but wonder if the loose rules (if there are any) for those bush track match races means that the horses are being dosed liberally with crap like clenbuterol, which can affect blood pressure and the heart.

just edited my post with a link to an investigation surrounding match racing tracks. no rules at all. both horses were owned by Cuadra Cristo Rey, which as you'll be able to see by the .pdf alone, has an insane amount of fatalities.BaroqueAgain1 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 29, 2022 6:47 pm That sad news definitely fits here. There aren't any. Its just someone setting up a race meet at a random place. There is no legal betting and no regulations. Think of it akin to dog or rooster fighting, there is lots of illegal stuff going on there but since its not a regulated meet, horse racing authorities can't do anything. It would have to be police/feds going and busting it up. I assume the horses are getting injected with things A LOT worse than bute.BaroqueAgain1 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 29, 2022 6:47 pm That sad news definitely fits here. G1W Gayego (by Gilded Time) has died age 17 from colic at Bar None Ranches in Alberta.
He raced in both the USA and UAE, winning a G3 in the latter.
He won the Arkansas Derby when it was a G2 and contested the 2008 Kentucky Derby and Preakness, finishing 17th and 11th, respectively.
Bar None Ranches also stood Gilded Time beginning in 2008; the farm reports Gayego enjoyed racing his sire against the fence line.
Gayego was the sire of several stakes horses.
