is there any reason why she'd be kept in light training instead of being sent to a farm if she's retired?
I would guess if in the rare chance whoever bought her wanted to bring her back as a 6yo?

my understanding from the article though is that she is being sold as a broodmare prospect only.

That doesn't mean anything if they don't "retire her from racing" with the JC. Or maybe Petersen would rather just pay the day rate at Baffert's stable than have her shipped to Kentucky now and then have to board her for a month?

If her owners would rather "board" her at Baffert's barn than a Kentucky Farm, maybe the "light training" is more or less just giving her exercise since she won't have an open pasture. Though I suppose this could be viewed as risky should she get injured during "light training," but she could also get injured while frolicking in a pasture. Not sure what races she would qualify for later in the year (like post-BC) but what is stopping them from giving her one more start if she is "100% healthy"?

If a horse is sold as a "stallion or broodmare prospect only" does that really officially prevent them from being put back into training?

Two-time Arizona Downs track record setter Limonite (Lemon Drop Kid × Colina Verde, by Know Heights) has been retired and gelded. He is available for adoption at New Vocations.

He is a stakes winner and placed in graded stakes twice. He raced from age 2 through 8 and retired with a record of 44: 9-5-8 and earnings of $456,856. He finished second in his last race last February.

His dam Colina Verde won the 2006 Brazil Filly Triple Crown as did his great-great-grandmother Emerald Hill in 1977. Colina Verde is also the dam of Greenzapper (by Ghostzapper) who won a G1 in Brazil.

I'm somewhat surprised he didn't get a chance at stud somewhere out west.

Who is most likely to retire at the end of the year?
So far I think War Like Goddess.

Sierra Leone. I’ll eat my foot if he doesn’t retire immediately after the breeders cup. Holding out hope Fierceness stays around but with Mindframe coming next year I don’t see it. Far Bridge probably along with maybe Carl Spackler.

I predict Fluffy Socks will retire. I think they really wanted to try and get her a G1W but that hasn't worked out so far.

Meanwhile, 9 y/o German gelding Skalleti (Kendargent) has been retired. He won 12 graded stakes races including the Grand Dallmayr Prize (G1) and Prix d'Ispahan (G1).

Fluffy Socks is in the FT November Sale, so I'm guessing she'll be retiring.
