Defending Champ Ruffian
BOTS Challenge
4 Step 6f Texas Sprint
The setting is a sleepy little track outside Dallas, Lone Star Park
The assistant starters are hanging around the starting gate
wearing their 10 gallon hats and Boots. Chewing and spitting.
Firearms are strapped to their waists.
One is playing "Call to Post" with a harmonica.
In the infield are Longhorns
grazing under the watchful eyes of a few Cowboys on horse back.
There is a settlement just outside the track housing a few Oklahoma Indians in Teepees.
A wolf howls at the sun, now that is weird or is it.
You will soon find out as the narration is brought to you by
Black Bart and in the booth with his faithful companion, Red Eye Texas whiskey.
The wind stirs, clouds gather, Tumbleweeds blow across the track,
vultures circle overhead and the cattle grow restless
while the Ranch hands try to calm them by singing.
The horses are skittish but finally loaded into the gates.
The starting gate is rocking, the horses hoofs are dancing the 4 step
and starter needs to send them right away as soon as the last one is loaded.
The starter raised his six shooters as well as the assistant starters
and fire their full clips sending them off in a wild sprint in "The 4 Step 6f Texas Sprint"
Jocks holding on to anything they can, reins, mane, neck and ears as the startled
Thoroughbreds bust from the gate.
The cattle bellowing, the Indians letting out War-Hoops.
chiefs beating on drums, the gunfire has awaken man and beast.
The quick stepping hoofs of Catalina with hair, mane and tail
flowing in the wind behind her has taken the lead
closely followed by Thunder Cat and the The Bunny.
The others pass the 2f pole bunched together as a pack of coyotes after a prey.
The 4f pole finds little change
other than Dusty and Roamin taking the lead of the pursuing pack.
War-Hoops are heard and the Indians in War Paint spring from their Teepees
and jump on their ponies.
They head toward the Cowboys thinking
they are starting a range war from the sound of gunfire.
The cattle are startled by the War-Hoops and bust out of the infield
onto the track running the wrong way.
The horses head down the stretch, the cattle, cowboys and Indians head up the track.
Catalina, The Bunny and Thunder Cat are locked in a 4 step battle to the finish line.
The others lead by Dusty and Roamin battle for the 4th place riches.
The cattle are stampeding up the stretch followed by the Cowboys swinging ropes
and Indians War-Hoops.
Horses heading down the stretch to the finish line with jockeys screaming
unable to control their horses toward a catastrophic meeting at the finish line.
Black Bart leaning out of the booth with one hand holding the microphone
and the other holding onto the bottle is screaming warnings,
falls out of the booth onto some Tumbleweeds.
This starting to look like a train wreck, when the Calvary arrives led by John Wayne
and diverts the cattle and chases off the Indians., thus saving the day.
A Hugh cloud of trail dust as descended over the stretch
leaving the finish line just barely visible.
Out of the dust comes Thunder Cat riding a Longhorn and crosses the finish line 1st.
Followed by The Bunny hopping over deposits left on the track.
Catalina arrives next looking like a Rodeo Queen riding 2 bare back horses,
boots planted on their backs.
Dusty comes next after hitching a ride with a passing singing cowboy
hoping for some happy trails to follow.
Roamin, Ruffian(DC), Cruzan, Tiger dancer follow with Shovels
and rolling barrels doing track maintenance collecting fertilizer.
Black Bart was last seen attending an AA meeting not sure of what he saw or dreamt,
but sure it had something to do with his TEXAS Whiskey.
