Drawing the rail was the defending champion RAVEN and will be ridden by kent desormeaux for his brother, trainer keith desormeaux
In the #2 stall will be RUFFIAN trained by linda rice and ridden by Hall of Famer julie krone

Next to Ruffian in stall 3 will be CIGARSHOP ridden by pat valenzuela and trained by anthony dutrow A special note, there's a rumor going around the backstretch that should this combo win they've come prepared to pass any tests

In stall #4 we find CATALINA with a new jockey today rosemary homeister and trained by kristen mulhall

In stall #5 we find STARK hoping to rebound from the dismal performance last week, his jockey and trainer both insist he's the fastest horse in America, the hall of famers gary stevens and bob baffert hope to prove it on the track today.

Just to their outside in post 6 is DUSTY ridden today by emma-jane wilson and trained by linda rice

In lucky post #7 we find the speedster CRIMINAL TYPE who will be trying to stretch his 1/4horse speed around two turns and to help him do that will be mikey smith and a real stamina test for trainer steve asmussen

In post position #8 is TIGER DANCER ridden today by chantal sutherland while janet elliott gives her a leg up.

Rounding out the field breaking from the far outside #9 post is JOHN HENRY ridden today by laffit pincay and trained by ron mcanally

As expected, CRIMINAL TYPE and mike smith burst out of the gates and quickly open up on the rest of the field, the question is will he have anything left for the stretch drive?

The first to bust out of the pack and chase after the leader is DUSTY as emma-jane wilson is going to the whip early and often on the far turn.

Heading into the stretch they're all bunched up except for CRIMINAL TYPE who is already dropping out of it. Anybody can win as RAVEN and TIGER DANCER and STARK all have a shot.
Kent is throwing crosses at RAVEN
and is almost assured of hitting the board if he doesn't stand up too early.
julie krone is doing everything she can to get RUFFIAN to switch leads to no avail.
