Welcome back once again race fans to beautiful Upside Downs, the track where anything can happen and usually does!
Before the gates open on our feature race today, one of those popular BOTS contests in which the colts and fillies battle it out for fame and glory, I have a rather surprising announcement to make. It's seems our state wagering board has gotten the idea too many runners here are doped up so they've banned all drugs effective immediately!
Of course the idea that anyone here at the Downs is less than perfectly honest is a gross insult and management has filed a protest, but for at least today it'll be just hay and water.

And now the horsies are stepping onto the track. Can't say they look like a sharp bunch today and at least a few seem a bit groggy, but now the last have limped in and they're off!

Dusty is in gear quickly with Oldowan right behind along with John Henry, but the rest broke in a tangle and have quickly fallen off the pace. Now Criminal Type bursts free of that pack to join the leaders and the 1st quarter went in...36 seconds? Must be something wrong with my stopwatch, and since we don't have a timer we'll just have to forget splits on this one.
Criminal Type has taken the lead at the half mile pole but things look grim for the trailers! Ruffian and Horse Crazy Gal have slowed to a walk and it's looks like poor Tiger Dancer is bleeding! KD is off in the front left but battling on, and it looks like Cigarshop just coughed up a lung! That must have hurt!
Remember kids, don't smoke!
And down the stretch they stagger with CT drawing away from Dusty and most of the rest hoping just to finish, and it's that way under the wire, finally, with John Henry along for the show spot!

Well, hardly the fastest race we've ever seen. And how about the fact a colt finally took one of these things after they banned dope? You don't think...nah! Couldn't be.
