I’m going through old Blood-Horse magazines and the June 1, 2002 edition had Shibboleth’s Jaipur win. He unfortunately died in Oct of that year and never got to stand stud.

He quite possibly could have been a good sire, being a full brother to the great Danehill.

Any others you can think of who could have been good sires?

Swale - beautiful, mirror image of his sire; very good horse, Claiborne behind him…

Two that actually stood stud - Saint Liam (6) and Saint Ballado (13) both died way too soon - what might have been…

Left Bank. Had such an interesting family, it would have been cool to see his offspring.

Claiborne looked for a son of Slew for so long…they never landed one, but they got two marvelous sons of Indy in Pulpit and Flatter

Old Trieste died very young, but he had such promise

Agreed, Old Trieste seemed to be on his way. Another gone too soon.

gonna start crying again but i was a huge mess when i read Dullahan died. was very very excited for him.
...yeah it hurt bringing him up again.

Champion 2yo Colt of 1982 - I believe the first horse of either gender to win that award without racing outside of California

Inbred 4X4 to Man O War

Catastrophic breakdown just past the wire after winning the Alibhai Hcp at Santa Anita in 1983. Broke both hind legs.

Besides the horrible thing that happened to him, the racing and breeding community were really upset at his loss because, like it is now, the Man O War sireline was in serious trouble. The In Reality crowd was just recently starting to assert itself in the shed, so Olden Times seemed at the time to be "the last of a vanishing breed", and folks were wringing their hands over it. Olden Times himself died in 1985 just two years after Roving Boy.

Nobody knows if Roving Boy would have been successful at stud or not, but his loss sure created a lot of angst!

Cannot leave out Arrogate gone much too soon with another stakes winner today

In more recent years, I really had a lot of hope for Midnight Bourbon to become a major sire for Tiznow, especially with his female family. I was crushed to hear about his death; it still hurts to think about.

One who was ready to go to stud, Gainesway had already started advertising him - Canadian Triple Crown winner Izvestia.

Easy Goer warrants a note as well.
Died suddenly at age 8 before his 1st runners had hit the track.
Only sired 136 foals which today is one moderate sized crop. From that he got 9 black type winners of which 3 were Grade 1 winners of the Travers, Whitney, BC Juvenile Fillies, CCA Oaks, Ashland, Gazelle, Ballerina etc.
He's also the broodmare sire of 3 or 4 Breeders Cup winners from those few daughters.
Considering most of the sons of Alydar failed to live up to their promise, I think Easy Goer was off to a good start.

My namesake had a beautiful pedigree. That was to be his last race, a tragedy.

Easy Goer was definitely gone too soon. Arrogate was the answer to who would carry the Unbridled-line.

On the topic of Man O’ War and by extension the tiznow sire line, I feel the death of Irap was another what-might-have-been.

He was a half brother to Speightstown and was really a handsome boy in his own right.

Precisionist could have been an intriguing sire if he hadn't been infertile--his pedigree is an outcross to almost everything nowadays but packed with European quality. Inbred 3x4 to Heliopolis, a son of Hyperion, with another cross to Hyperion. It's nothing like a pedigree you would see now.

Midnight Bourbon too.

Dubai Millennium and Summer Bird are two that immediately come to mind. Both breeding careers cut far too short.

Barbaro! For the Dynaformer sire line.

And Cirrus Des Aigles. Not because he died but he is a gelding.

Would have been good for the Ahonoora/Tourbillon sire line.

I don't know if he would have been a good sire but I would have liked to see him get a chance.
