I agree I wish they wouldn’t have the breeze ups. I wonder how many babies come out of the sale with injuries. The whipping also bothers me alot. Agree-a regular gallop should be fine. Saw a quote from one of the consignors that their horse “ had a bad day” when he breezed 10 and 3 for an eighth of a mile.

I don't get the "making them run faster than they will ever run in a race" thing. But that isn't something a seller HAS to do, they can chose to just work them normally. I understand potential buyers wanting to see the horses work. The first 2yo sale isn't until mid/late March, at that point 2yos have already been posting workouts at tracks and are going to be racing by beginning of April.

I know she has bought horses for Baffert before but also Doug O'Neill. Bolton/Lipman/etc. partnership and Phoenix Thoroughbred for US owners, at least. I'm old enough to remember when this wasn't the case. 2 yr olds in training sales just galloped the horses so buyers could see how they moved. Somewhere along the way things changed to letting them breeze an eighth of a mile. When the fastest breezers starting bringing top dollar that's when things started getting crazy. UBS worked :10 1/5, its what made him the buzz horse for that Barrett's Sale. I tried to find the answer before but all I found was breeze up sales started in the USA in the 70s but like you said they were not doing the all out for a furlong. I was trying to recall when this all started. I remember Unbridled's Song selling for over a million dollars in California as a two yr old in 1995. I don't think they were breezing horses then. I think they were still just galloping them. The Green Monkey sold for $16,0000 in 2006. So maybe sometime between 1995-2006 the crazy idea of breezing them faster than they'll ever run in a race started.
