some cool words from Hirsch:
"We don't need these superstars that came along and fall by the wayside in the breeding shed. We've got to think about this sport and what we as individuals can do to help it and promote it. I'm glad I gave Ce Ce that extra year."

Verry Elleegant -> Sea the Stars, on Northern Hemisphere time. Undecided if she will go back to Australia after being covered or stay North for another season.

I am also glad he kept her in training. She was a lot of fun to watch. What a great attitude he has for the sport. Looking forward to her babies!

Salty as Can Be, $2m Keeneland purchase and half sister to Salty, is going to Flightline.

Fingers crossed that Shadwell sends Malathaat to War Front. The nick is A++ and they want to send her to a proven, top stallion, plus they send mares to War Front every year lately.

Oh, there will be plenty. Most owners just haven’t announced who their mares are visiting yet, the ones mentioned above have gone through the sales ring and their new owners have done interviews.

But I would be surprised if much of Flightline’s book has even been finalized yet since a fee still hasn’t been enough. I’m sure the only mares guaranteed to visit him rn are the ones that the shareholders own….

Which means it’s entirely possible that Littleprincessemma, Chasing Yesterday, etc, will be visiting him! Jane Lyon owns quite the broodmare.

We all know just how much she looooves Tapit. I'd love to know how much of her broodmare band she'll now be diverting from Tapit to Flightline.

It's fun to hypothesize what you'd do yourself if you had the money and the mares.
Would I take a $200,000 gamble on an unproven stallion? Maybe for one or two mares but that would be it.
There's not been a recent stallion in the last decades who has entered at a fee like that... and ended up justifying it.
He's already a million dollar yearling and a HOTY... how astronimical are the odds that he completes the triple and also ends up a leading sire off the bat??

I can't see Chasing Yesterday going to him...that's a little too close on the family tree! Lol

First of all, I definitely forgot that Chasing Yesterday and Flightline are both sired by Tapit. Yeah, might be too in the family, lol.

As for what Jane might do, I do think she'll take several shots on Flightline, but it must help that she won't be paying that $200,000 fee seeing as she stayed on as an owner. And she certainly does have love for Tapit but after sending some of her top prospects to Gun Runner, I wouldn't be surprised if she starts branching out a bit in the next few years. She already has plenty of foals by him.

According to Equineline, that's a C+ match. Enicks rates her at an A cross with most of the Taylor Made roster, so why not try to get her into the very proven Not This Time? Or go to Volatile at Three Chimneys and double up on the Lucky Spell genes? She's an A+ or A++ with Palace Malice and Gun Runner as well.

Help this decision make sense, someone!

They want to breed to Jackie's Warrior or like most commercial breeders they want to get in a first crop stallions book? Maybe they are going for a sprinter, since Cilla was a sprinter herself. Nicks are just a tool to use, nothing more. C+ is average, that isn't a bad cross, its 6% SW to starters. But in my opinion, the rating for this cross isn't going to hold much meaning. Chrome is too young to have starters as a broodmare sire. I highly doubt any Lucky Pulpit mares made it to Kentucky to be crossed to MacLean's Music or Cloud Computing(his only son with foals of racing age). So they have to be pulling the nick from Distorted Humor and his sons/grandsons crossed with daughters of Pulpit and his sons/grandsons.

As for the stallions you mentioned, Not This Time and Gun Runner are producing more Classic types. Volatile is going into his 3rd season at stud, it would be unwise of them to send her to him. This is a commercial breeder who wants to sell the foal. The verdict will be out before her foal would make the sales. But Jackie's Warrior does bring in Lucky Spell himself as MacLean's Music's broodmare sire is UBS.
And NO ONE is using Palace Malice. He bred 12 mares in 2022 and 14 in 2021. Can't believe he hasn't been sold yet.
