2023 Fee (2022 Fee)
Medaglia d’Oro $100,000 ($100,000)
Essential Quality $75,000 ($75,000)
Street Sense $75,000 ($75,000)
Nyquist $55,000 ($55,000)
Maxfield $40,000 ($40,000)
Hard Spun $35,000 ($35,000)
Midshipman $20,000 ($10,000)
Speaker's Corner $20,000 (NEW)
Mystic Guide $15,000 (NEW)
Frosted $10,000 ($20,000)
Enticed $5,000 ($5,000)

I know $100,000 is a ton of money but tbh that seems like a reasonable deal for an incredible stallion who isn’t getting any younger. Also about time Frosted had his fee dropped to a reasonable level, he is simply not the stallion they hoped we would be

Hit it a Bomb moved (new standing place still TBA), that's what frequent "small" books get you at Spendthrift. don't really understand the drop in Authentic's fee, as far as i know his I/F broodmares are still selling well and he has some nice weanlings entered in the November sales. his book size didn't change much either (229 in 2021, 202 in 2022), not out of the norm for a stallion's 2nd year at stud.

Nice to see Midshipman getting a nice bump up- he has done consistently well over the years.

Any of the now $5,000 studs at Spendthrift will probably not be there much longer with the way that Spendthrift cycles through stallions. Also, Authentic dropped because its his 3rd year at stud and I guess its harder for 3rd year studs to get as many mares due to not having any racing-age babies or the newness of being freshly retired.

i think the only $5,000 stallion with no chance of moving is Temple City because of the "sentimental" value. all others will probably be gone soon.

Very interesting introductory fees for Mystic Guide and Speakers Corner.

I'm wondering if its because Mystic Guide never won a G1 in the US and/or because he hadn't raced since July 2021?

Kind of weird to see Constitution get a $25,000 boost when he didnt have a G1 or G2 winner this year.

Also when was the last time a horse retired for $100,000 or more having not won a Triple Crown race or the Breeder’s Cup Classic? Real question.

I mean yes he could still win the Classic, if Baaeed can be beat then so can Flightline… but you get my point.

$15,000? good luck filling that book... wasn't expecting more than $10,000. his only attribute is absolute speed over short distances, might get you, um.... a quarter horse Triple Crown winner?

surprised to not see Country Grammer there. also, what's the thing with Tourist? awaiting a decision from a korean stud farm?

Its all based on yearling sales for Constitution. His average in 2022 was $253,967.

I don't know if a horse has ever retired with a stud fee of 100k+ that didn't win a Triple Crown race or the BCC. I can't think of one anyway.

I missed noting that Life Is Good could be higher than 100k depending on BC results.

As for Tourist, I hope they don't even bother selling him and just pension him. Find him a new home if they need to. Pay Old Friends to take him or something. He isn't worth the cost it would be to ship him to South Korea.

it says subject to change, so i wonder if he does really bad in the BCC it goes down. doubt it anyways. i'm more curious about CG now, i believe they had said he was retiring after this year? but maybe his form isn't as "pleasant" as they expected following his return from Dubai.

i also hope Speightstown gets pensioned soon... he'll be 25 next year covering quite big books for his age. 89 this year. and we know damn well WinSh*t doesn't spare their stallions who aren't willing to breed...

I'm going with never.
I've been trying to come up with a list of horses that were even retired to a stud fee of 100k+. Its pretty rare, obviously the 2 Triple Crown winners. Before that I can only come up with Ghostzapper in 2006, Smarty Jones in 2005, Empire Maker in 2004, Point Given in 2002, and Fusaichi Pegasus in 2001. The only one I can come up with in the 90s was, I *think* Easy Goer started at 100k in 1991. Before that, no clue. Obviously I might be forgetting someone. I almost forgot to put Empire Maker on the list.
