Zedan shatters the previous sale record for the Fasig Tipton Midatlantic 2yo in training sale of $1.8 million (Gamine), nearly doubling it by going to $3.55 million for
Berning Remarks (Bernardini - G Note, by MDO). G Note is a winning 1/2 sister to G2SW Mineralogist and Spw Risk A Chance (dam of G2 Un Ojo). 3rd dam is MG1SW Antespend (dam of G1 Friends Lake). The colt is the highest ever sale for an offspring of Bernardini.
At the time of the post no other horse has gone past $725,000. That is the high priced filly at the moment, a Girvin - Sweet Pistol, by Smart Strike. Sweet Pistol is out of MG2SW Pomeroys Pistol and is a 1/2 sister to G2 Thousand Words.

Holy cow.....I’m sure the colt is beautiful, and he seems fast, but as much as I absolutely LOVE Bernardini, his legacy will be as a spectacular broodmare sire, not a sire of sires. I’m shocked, therefore, that the bidding for this colt got that insane

it will always be beyond me how owners seem to think that going fast over a furlong proves race potential. just because he could go 1F in 9 seconds and change doesn't mean he has the stamina/ability to maintain such speeds over actual races. but do with your money what you will, i guess.

Only my amateur speculation, but could that furlong provide for a trained eye a basic observation of the mechanical workings of the 2yo? If the horse can move quickly over that distance, it may show (for that moment in time) that all the parts work well, and there is no mechanical interference preventing full extension and collection.

I have no problem with that, these people know this...they’re taking a chance. With yearlings, it’s even more of a guess. It’s also not my money; I don’t care how much they spend.

What!? I thought that whips had been forbidden for 2yo sale workouts. I didn't see the tape you may have seen, so I am disturbed that maybe some 2yo sales do NOT forbid whip use on these babies. Ugh.

Curiously every horse they gave him turned into a G1W, while all the horses they originally gave O'Neil did next to nothing.

Agree. Most good horses have good names.
Grover Cleveland is on the 1000 dollar bill, which G Note is slang for, but that’s not such a great name for a horse, lol. I like something to do with money, like Banknote...

I Googled Hejazi and came up with this :
a native or inhabitant of the Saudi Arabian region of Hejaz
BUT it’s also a breed of Goat. I was going to suggest that maybe his owner was making a play on GOAT - greatest of all time, but this breed is used for the production of meat, so...no way.
For a BB baby, his works are pretty slow, but perhaps that’s by design

Ah, thanks ! Now I feel sorry for being so blah on the name...clearly it has great meaning for Zedan, and he used it on a horse he is clearly extremely high on
