I'm trying to find out when the following stallions died and if known what of , also their height.
I've tried US Studbook and Jockey Club, Keeneland Library and Pedigreequery Forum all with no joy so hoping someone here maybe able to help or suggested somebody
1936 Hunters Moon IV by Foxhunter died after 1952 ... more like 1960! 1950 season at The Meadow, Doswell, Virginia - Died 1960 source Keeneland Lib

1948 Nuccio by Traghetto - sent to the U.S.A. in 1962, but not used for breeding. Died 1962 ?

1939 First Fiddle by Royal Minstrel - died 1959 / 1960 - Stood North Wales Stud, VA

1971 Splitting Headache by The Axe - died 1984?

1945 Solar Slipper by Windsor Slipper - died 1964 1966? was alive in 1962

1967 Hagley by Olden Times -Hickory Tree Farm, Middleburg VA, in Feb 1990 Pensioned

1977 Doonesbury by Matsadoon - 1992?

1966 Tell by Round Table - stood at Claiborne.... 1992/93?

1962 Meadow Court by Court Harwell - 1980 or 1981 or even 1982?
Alan Shuback states:-"conversely, Meadow Court - who was, by any measure, the best horse Bing Crosby ever owned - was a dud at stud. After suffering fertility problems at Sandley Stud in Dorset, England, he was brought back into training as an eight-year-old but failed to regain his old sparkle. He was sent to stud again but never sired anything of value."

1931 Athanasius ? interesting story but someone must know what happened to him when he went to US.
In 1951 James Livingston purchase him and stood him in Tucson - but what happened next and when did he died.

From a small owner/breeder in England
thanks Paul

I can only find definite year of death for one. Maybe for another. While I have quite a few stallion directories in print, I don't really have any before 1980, except a weird one that ranges from 1954 to 1963. The weird stallion directory was published in 1954, its in a ringed binder with cards for each stallion, then they must have sent updated cards for new stallions, there are cards that give updated stud fees for 1960 and again in 1963. Then the one stallion directory only has an index of stallions by the state they are standing in. Which makes it incredibly hard to find a stallion if I have no clue where he was standing. Anyway here is what little I could find. Maybe it will help you find more information.

1935 Fighting Fox by Sir Gallahad - died 1959 ?
--- The 1954 stallion directory has him standing at Claiborne. Kind of weird he isn't in one of their cemeteries, unless he was sold before the end of his stallion career. The cards with updated stud fees from 1960 (his stud fee is listed as expired, not dead, while other stallions are listed as dead). Looking on pedigreequery and double checking with Equineline, he did have a couple foals born in 1959 but nothing after.

1955 Jester by Tom Fool - died 1970?
--- died in 1982 - Buried at Erdenheim Farm, Pennsylvania https://www.tbheritage.com/TurfHallmark ... rmNAM.html (he is the only stallion on your list that shows up on this page)

1959 Battle Joined by Armageddon - died 1978 1979 ? Spendthrift Farm haven't replied but may have been sent to Argentina
--- pedigree query has him dying in 1981. take with a grain of salt as anyone can edit this

1966 Tell by Round Table - stood at Claiborne.... 1992/93?
--- not a lot of help but he stood at Peppertree Stock Farm in Hemet, California in 1992, he does not show up in the 1993 stallion directory I have. The farm does not exist anymore and has been developed.

1979 Unpredictable by Tri Jet - Valley Creek - California - could be died 2003 Canada ?
-- stood at JW Equine in Alberta, Canada in 2002. I do not have a 2003 stallion directory and he is not listed in the index in 2004

1977 Doonesbury by Matsadoon - 1992?
-- in the index as standing at Airdrie Stud in Kentucky up to and including the 1996 stallion directory, unless they just forgot to have his name removed because it doesn't appear he sired foals after 1992.

Researching the vintage lines/stallions are one of the things I love researching. I'll start off with Splitting Headache:

Splitting Headache's last crop of foals was in 1990, which turned out to be three unraced [named] colts, and all were foaled in Pennsylvania. I found his stallion page in the 1980 Bloodhorse Stallion Register (no photo). He did not have a listing, nor any advertisement in the 1988 version. He did sire 102 foals total though. It shows he is listed as a chestnut horse, height was 15.3 hands, and his 1980 stud fee was $2,500. He stood stud at that time at a place called Foxfire in Alexandria, Louisiana. No death year on-record, so he was at least alive circa 1989.

Meadow Court's last crop was in 1985, and I did find his stallion page in the 1980 Bloodhorse Stallion Registry, too. He stood stud for $1,500 at Bent Pine Farm in Wagontown, Pennsylvania. He was listed at 16.1 hands. Sired 100 foals.

Okay he is in the Index in the 1990 TB Times Stallion Directory and was standing at Hi Vue Farm, New Hope, PA.

I really appreciate you coming back so quickly - great information. I'm still having alot of trouble get similar from the Aus/NZ side. What triggered all this was I build a Database on stallions line to see average winning distant and how long they live some sire lines ie Lyphard line on the whole live to a good age. I have a few mares and have raced them ... I have a nice Dansili homebred who won for me trained by Henry Cecil. Anyway 1st foal was by Observatory did ok nice small compact. Went to Sea The Moon and have a giant filly was trained by Charlie Fellowes as Henry no longer with us. So wanted to then add into the DB stallion height. As my Dansili mare is only 16 and her mum who I still have and bred by Shareef Dancer is 15.2 at the most.

Again thanks and if you find any more please let me know

Paul

You could try asking the Keeneland Library.

They are very good at doing research for subjects like this. They have helped me in the past in looking for obscure horses.

And they used to be free of charge. Always a plus.

Hello yes did ask American Jockey Club, Studbook , Keeneland Library (who did help with last foals dates) but getting year of death was not so easy. I also tried pedigreequery which is not always 100% correct on death. So thanks Flanders, Psychotic Parakeet ... I'll keep going. I also have emails virginiaequestrian.com along with Arizona TBA to find out 1931 Athanasius as he was spoils of war (taken back to USA after WW2) then sent Tuscon. If anybody has any suggestions please let me know. Paul

After this weekend, I can do more sleuthing for you. I have family visiting later tonight, so I'll be preoccupied. I've been itching to go after more of what you listed.

On a side note, I saw that you were creating a database with your information. It is coincidental you mentioned this, as I am building a research website with several others to create an online database of such, too. I have a friend that is specializing in creating new mare family numbers with some Great Britain-bred foundation mares that were unfortunately ignored; one into obscure French pedigrees; and I'm doing one that showcases California's racing/breeding industry. If you are interested in being part of the project, then you can send me a message.

Regarding Athanasius, The Jockey Club accepted him for the stud book in May, 1953 see https://drf.uky.edu/catalog/1950s/drf19 ... 1801_34_2

For more of his back story, along with the story of several other horses imported from Germany after the war see https://drf.uky.edu/catalog/1950s/drf19 ... 052101_2_5

He was still owned by J. W. Livingston in Colorado, in May, 1956, when Mr. Livingston and his wife died in an air crash. https://drf.uky.edu/catalog/1950s/drf19 ... 050501_9_4

Hope this helps!
