The July sale is the start of yearling sale season, with a Horses of Racing Age session. Fasig Tipton has added a broodmare dispersal and is taking entries for breeding stock session as well.

Entries are still open for the breeding stock and horses of racing age and the catalog isn't out for the breeding stock until July 1st.

A partnership that bought mares to support Far From Over are dispersing all their mares after the stallion suffered a pelvis injury early in the breeding season, forcing him to miss the rest of the season. They shipped the 18 mares to Kentucky, some were already covered by him, but the rest were covered by either Connect or Violence. They will sell with their 2021 foals at their sides.

The sale will start with the breeding stock session, followed by the horses of racing age on July 12th, then following day is the yearling session.

So they're selling the mares to support the stallion's treatment? Is he done with breeding completely?

The article made it sound like the partnership was giving up because the stallion got hurt but that Far From Over would be okay and be back to breeding next year. I thought it was a strange decision to make but maybe they went overboard buying 18 mares?

They can sell the mares now, buy new ones in November or January, and not pay 6-7 months of board and feed. They also will not have foaling expenses for the mares if they do a dispersal now.

Oh ok. The article was very vague and I was just worried something worse happened to FFO. I liked him a lot and was happy when I found out he was standing somewhere.

Its weird though right? I understand being disappointed the stallion was injured but just selling all the mares they bought to support him? Maybe they are planning to do that though? Just buy mares every year breed them and sell them?

It sounds like the mares that were already bred to him are not being sold...

Fasig-Tipton reported that Far From Over died today from a seizure. He was only 9.

Makes you wonder if that pelvic injury wasn't secondary to a fall from a seizure in the first place. Guess they did not want it to get out that this could be a possible genetic thing which would also explain them wanting to sell so quickly.

This Bloodhorse article says he had injured himself in a paddock accident this past spring.

I'm curious whether a medical treatment for the injury could have caused side effects that led to the seizure? It can happen to humans, so I guess it's not out of the question in a horse...especially since they can't tell you how a medicine is affecting them.
