I'm making my decision purely on the reason they have both a dirt and turf division, so I'd pick Juddmonte.

The history of the Aga Khan's broodmare band dating back to Mumtaz Mahal would be amazing to be a part of... then you throw in the families he purchased from Marcel Boussac.

But Juddmonte has had considerably more success with their families, though the operation is much larger than the Aga Khan's. He also purchased his share of historic families through Jock Whitney.

It's a toss up for me.

One thing that kind of concerns me is whether or not Khalid Abdullah has any family members who are involved in running the farm with him... as he certainly isn't getting any younger. I feel like I read somewhere that his son or sons help him name the horses, but I never hear of any of them being at the races. You see Sheikh Mohammed's favourite son Hamdan in winner's circle photos and somewhat being involved with the horses, MV Magnier is the face of Coolmore's big money auction buys, Tom Magnier runs Coolmore Australia, the Aga Khan's daughter used to have horses racing in her own silks, though I haven't heard anything about her in years.

It would be heartbreaking to see an eventual dispersal of an operation like Juddmonte.

It kind of surprises me that Empire Maker isn't on this list either. I'm wondering if it might be because he was sold. I don't know the life history of all the illustrious names on this list, but did any of them ever change ownership?

Yes. Dancing Brave, Twice Over, and Warning were all sold. Flintshire could be on the list of sold too, but Juddmonte did keep part ownership when he went to stud.

They could easily triple the size of that list and not have it questioned. The one I'm most surprised isn't on the list is Danehill, he was a G1 winner for them and I know they sold him for stud but the impact he had on the breed, worldwide is undeniable. They have others on the list that were more known for their breeding contributions than their racing track accomplishments.

Empire Maker WAS a 3-time GI winner, and while a bit slow out of the gate at stud (which may have prompted his sale), ended up pretty successful before his sad passing early this year.

I'm just curious as to why he was left off.

Because he really isn't in their top 20 horses that they've owned. The horses they've owned and bred is deep with talent. They have a list on their site of the G1 winners that they have bred and another that they have owned, the homebred list is over 100 horses.
