Does anyone know where I can find a list of the US stallions that were named Leading Freshman Sire each year? I can easily find 2001-2019 but I'm having a hard time finding before that.

I'm looking for something like this but for Freshman:

Nope or I can't find it. I want to be able to see who was Champion first crop sire in for example 1987 or 1994.

You might already know this and it may not help but just in case:

If you want to help filter search results, use keywords in quotation marks. For example, search some variant of "thoroughbred" "champion sire" "freshman sire" "1984" and the algorithm (or whatever it is) will only bring you results with those specific keywords, instead of the "this gets the most clicks so it must he what they're searching for" fodder that you usually get when searching normally. This is how I've been able to find a lot of the "wow where did you find that" stuff I've shared here and how I've found niche scholarships.

I'm well versed in how search engines work and let's be honest, of course 1984 is going to return results, its Danzig. I just find it weird there isn't just a list somewhere of who won it every year its been awarded since such a big deal is made out of it, I understand its not as prestigious or meaningful as Champion Leading Sire. I'm going with such a list doesn't exist because I put in a lot of time searching before I asked here. The only way I've been able to find specific years is if I can guess a stallion who I think would have been a leading freshman sire. I'm just disappointed there isn't a list because I'm never going to find the more obscure stallions. For example, if I didn't easily have access to the Leading Freshman Sire of 2001 - 2019, who would have remembered that Valid Expectations, Chapel Royal, Henrythenavigator or Successful Appeal took the Leading Freshman Sire title?

So I guess I'll just start making a list and asking does anyone know any Leading Freshman Sires not listed here, I'll also include stallions that I've narrowed out of the list, in some cases I have a ? and then stallions listed cause these are stallions from that crop:
1978 - Mr. Prospector

1982 - Seattle Slew
1983 - Alydar
1984 - Danzig
1985 - Fappiano
1986 - Sportin' Life
1987 - Crafty Prospector
1989 - Chief's Crown
1990 - Woodman
1991 - Capote
1992 - Forty Niner
1993 - Seeking The Gold
1994 - Red Ransom
1995 - Farma Way
1996 - Salt Lake
1997 - Gilded Time
1998 - End Sweep
1999 - Cherokee Run
2000 - Honour and Glory
2001 - Valid Expectations
2002 - Distorted Humor
2003 - Stravinksy
2004 - Successful Appeal
2005 - Tiznow
2006 - Street Cry
2007 - Posse
2008 - Tapit
2009 - Offlee Wild
2010 - Congrats
2011 - Scat Daddy
2012 - Henrythenavigator
2013 - Dunkirk
2014 - Quality Road
2015 - Uncle Mo
2016 - Dialed In
2017 - Overanalyze
2018 - Cross Traffic
2019 - American Pharoah

I didn't have my glasses on when I responded so I thought 1994 was 1984. I was just trying to help. Sorry.

Could be a huge huge longshot, but you could try just straight up emailing bloodhorse (assuming they have a general inquires email) and ask if they have any of said info and if they could share it. Just because they don't have it online for the average fan doesn't mean they don't have it archived somewhere.

Its really hard to find some of these. I've been successful in finding most but some years are just ????? Like I'm 99% sure Deerhound won Champion Freshman sire but I can find NOTHING that says he did. Does anyone know if Unbridled was Champion Freshman sire as UBS won the BCJ that year? At this point I have resulted to searching through Stallion Directories from each year, just to see a list of stallions that have their first crop racing that year.

Knowing the year you were looking for would have been nice to know ahead of time. Bloodhorse online goes back to 2001.... but I am GUESSING they’d have the results going back further if you contacted them.

I just thought maybe there was somewhere that already had a complete compiled list of the winners, like Wikipedia does for the Leading General Sire but I couldn't find anything like that anywhere.

Bloodhorse’s stallion register had the lists. When paper was cool!

Yeah I remember seeing it in print in either Bloodhorse or TB Times, that was why I was surprised I couldn't find a list anywhere. Maybe its in a stallion directory I have, I have a nice collection for information but the prospect of looking through close to 40 stallion directories to try and find it doesn't excite me. The few I had grabbed and flipped through didn't have it. I did use them to try and narrow down who would have been the leading freshman sire each year but I don't have all of them.
Its crazy to pick one up randomly and see that Gainesway was going to stand 36 stallions in 1993.

I have messaged two different sources that maybe can help me and I'm down to only needing to figure out 4 from 1982 - 2019. I truly can't find anything to confirm that Deerhound was 1997's Leading Freshman Sire, the year Countess Diana won the BCJF. The same with Unbridled in 1995, that was the year UBS won the BC Juvenile, that is usually enough for a stallion to secure the title. The other 2 years, 1986 and 1987 are rough.

Really surprosed to see Red Ransom in 1994. I thought Dayjur may have took 1st Crop that year.

Yeah he was one of the last ones I figured out. Thank you for writing that because that is exactly why I am trying to find them. There are going to be stallions that people forgot.

Anyway, I contacted Paulick Report first because they have always responded to me when I write to them, which hasn't been the case with Bloodhorse. Ray emailed me back and said, "You are correct about there not being a readily accessible list of historical leading freshman sires. We may try to put one together as there is, as you pointed out, great interest in first-year sires’ success."

Finally found an article to confirm 1987 was Crafty Prospector.

I dug out my 2005 Thoroughbred Times Racing Almanac and it has the leading freshman sires back to 1975. Here are your missing years:

1986 Sportin’ Life
1995 Farma Way
1997 Gilded Time

You’re welcome. Farma Way was a surprise.
