I’m surprised to see Love The Chase and Stopchargingmaria in here

Re: Love the Chase-not surprised. The full siblings to California Chrome haven't done much. It doesn't bode well for Chrome's stallion career. SF Bloodstock seemed like extremely commercial breeders/buyers. If there isn't an instant return they don't seem interested. They were part of the syndication that decided to sell Take Charge Indy before his get even ran. They're even selling the Pioneerofthenile colt out of her in this sale (#109)

Other nice (adult) horses offered:

#208 Akron Moon dam of Bellafina and Diamond King
#156 Amazing Belle sister to Unrivaled Belle, the dam of Unique Bella
#158 America's Starlet half to American Gal and full to Americanize
#157 American Gal
#159 Appealing Zophie dam of Tapwrit and Ride a Comet
#161 Belle Gallantey
#168 Caledonia Road
#189 Carina Mia
#176 Con te Partiro half to Donworth
#239 Constellation
#178 Cover Song Half to US Navy Flag and Roly Poly
#179 Daddy Issues Half to Accelerate
#153 Drumette Half to Monomoy girl
#193 Fault
#199 Gas Station Sushi
#216 Last Kitten Half to Kitten's Joy etc.
#229 Out of stopshoppingmaria
#228 Moonshine Memories
#123 Half to Miss Temple City
#135 Smashing Serena out of Serena's Sister
#188 Song of Bernadette dam of Catholic Boy
#234 stopcharingmaria
#141 Take Charge Paula

For being such a nice mare, no one seems keen to hold onto Stopchargingmaria for too long. Repole doesn't do too much breeding, and selling a nice mare like that can buy a lot of yearlings, Town and Country buying her privately after she RNA'd for $3,150,000 then selling her two years later for $2,800,000 in order to reinvest in their breeding operation didn't make much sense... (to me at least). I would have expected a breeding operation like Three Chimneys/Borges Torrealba Holdings to keep her as part of their broodmare band.

Oh well, there are many intricacies of the breeding/sales business that still remain a mystery to me.

wonder how many we'll hold on to, and how many we'll let go over seas. while it's true that successful horses over seas may not have been as successful here, i do wonder what the NA horses would look like/run like had we held onto some of them. this sale always makes me sad because we often see so many leave (not that i'd meet them anyway, still a bummer, not sure how to convey sentiment while still acknowledging that i understand breeding is a business and these aren't house pets)

Love The Chase has had 3 winners from 4 starters, and her 5th foal is only a yearling. One of her winners is the richest Kentucky Derby winner of all time, a 2-time Horse of the Year who won 7 Gr.1 races and over $14 million. The mare was then sold for over $1 million and her Tapit colt sold for over $1 million. No one can ask more from any broodmare.

As for Chrome's stud career, like all new stallions, it will rise or fall depending on the ability of his foals to race, not on the sale of his dam.

Definitely better quality in this sale than Keeneland’s book 1

Yeah, I neglect to see how Chrome's siblings lack of success would affect his career.

Sisters Hope's Love and R Sunday Suprise are winners, so Chrome's successes combined with that should increase their value as broodmares, if anything. Brother Faversham's lack of winning really plays no part.

As for Maria, perhaps her quality is the reason why she is always sold. They want to sell her before her foals hit the track to get the most value.

One freak in the family doesn't change the fact the others are minor winners and not top quality runners.
Many of these stallions from somewhat humble pedigrees, who far outran them, rarely pass on the brilliance, but more what you'd expect from their bloodlines.
Skip Away?
Silver Charm?
Smarty Jones? (with the more commercial sire himself in this bunch....).

Tiznow has been the exception and not the rule. He also had a much more successful producing dam.....

Hope's Love is still a maiden. She never won. R Sunday Surprise won once in 9 starts. Neither of the two fillies are Blacktype earners, let alone Listed or Graded stakes placed/performers.
Their brother, Faversham did win once as well, but same story, as soon as he has been in blacktype company he's failed to pick up a cheque.
So while it is good she has 3 winners out of 5 foals of racing age, 4 of those foals do not have any increase value (blacktype) which means as a broodmare her value hasn't increased, nor has her daughters. They are probably hoping to get as much out of her value as possible in case Chrome flops as a stallion. And the reason why it might impact Chrome's stallion career is that people often look for consistency on the damline because that's a better warrantor of a sire. If performance is consistent throughout the pedigree than there is more chance that those 'good genes' will be more consistently passed on to offspring.

Of course there's always a gamble and a crapshoot with breeding, Chrome may turn out to be an outstanding sire. But if he doesn't perform, and Love the Chase's other offspring don't become at least blacktype earners, her value will continue to decrease.
