we've seen some very, very good (even great) geldings. sometimes we lament the gelding, but then think "well, maybe they would not have run as well otherwise".

my question here is; of some of the great geldings we've seen (or are too young to have seen), from a purely breeding, bloodstock agenting, "this family was so successful, especially crossed with ThisParticularLine", who would you have really liked to see offspring from? (we all know that you can have the best breeding on the fastest horse and they could still flop in the shed and vice versa, but we also all know that curiosity and hypotheticals can be fun, and that's all i'm aiming for)

*bonus points if you say which lines you would have crossed your chosen gelding(s) with*

While multimillionaire Budroyale may not have been a great gelding, he was pretty good and I suspect that his owners may have had 'gelding' regret when the rest of his Cee's Tizzy/Cee's Song siblings turned out to be so good.
Tizbud has become a nice California stallion; the sisters have become really good broodmares, giving us runners like Oxbow and Paynter; and Tiznow...well, I don't have room to list all his virtues.
How good could Budroyale have become as a sire?

That said, Fort Marcy. Great female family that still pops in pedigrees, and by a phenomenal sire who died far too early in his stud career:

interestingly, he was my inspiration for the thread as I was thinking about his sister and ill-fated dam.

I always wondered about Perfect Drift, as a "sturdier" son of Dynaformer. Seems like those can be hard to come by, unfortunately.

If Shared Belief had lived- I bet he would have made some beautiful babies.

Americain seems to be getting a good number of mares.

I don't think I've ever read that Dynaformer needed 'sturdier' sons. Seems like his boys have plenty of bone in those tree trunks...I mean, legs.

I have to wonder how Exterminator, Kelso or John Henry would have done. Probably not extremely well, but... this is a thread to make you go 'hmm...'

Forego was a great gelding, but he was gelded because of his forelegs. He would have been so heavily built in front he wouldn't have been sound to run. I saw him close up. His pasterns would never have held up.
