Wow......5 of the top ten sires of 2016 are by Indy or sons of Indy:

Tapit
Bernardini (continuing his resurgence)
Congrats
Flatter
Malibu Moon

I love how the full brothers Congrats and Flatter have turned out to be such solid sires; very few knew about Flatter when he went to stud, but I knew how talented he was so it's really fulfilling to see him turn out so well.......

Congrats is having a good spring, especially with three-year-old fillies like Polar River (UAE Oaks), Venus Valentine (Rachel Alexandra), Forever Darling (Santa Ynez) and Cash Back (Melody of Colors).

Friesan Fire appears to be developing into a nice regional sire, at least. Might possibly have a chance to do better if he could draw some mares of a bit higher quality. So far in his first limited crop of 39 named foals (that I could find), he's had 17 winners (43%), 1 champion (in South Korea), 2 stakes winners and 2 others stakes placed. Fire is also the #5 second crop sire so far in 2016.

And, to top all this off, the current leading first crop sire is another son of A.P. Indy, Eye of the Leopard.

Indy was born the same year that his legendary maternal grandsire, Secretariat, died. Indy has gone on to have the full life I had always wished for Secretariat, who was taken from us too soon due to laminitis. I'm so grateful that Indy and Storm Cat made it to advanced ages.

Friesian Fire's Morning Fire won his second stakes (I think? Maybe he's won more?) today at Gulfstream, taking the 6 1/2-furlong Spectacular Bid. His connections may be letting the speedy colt just be what he is...a good sprinter...instead of trying to shove him into Derby preps.

Wow, that's wonderful news. Thanks for posting it. If Morning Fire develops into a top sprinter, maybe the Breeders Cup Sprint could be an objective. Got to hang on to those dreams.

Ooh I had no idea that FF was off to such a promising start..... I think it's a reach to talk about "Leopard" at this point. I didn't even know there were any 2 year old races.

True, it is a stretch to talk about Leopard at this early point in the year, but nevertheless, he is currently the leading first crop sire. We also have Honor Code and Commissioner foals to look forward to in a couple of years. Just keeping the dream alive.

Wow- that is impressive. And, waiting in the wings is Honor Code. At Lane's End, they are in stalls next to one another. This time next year, his first babies will be on the ground.

Indy is amazing - sire, sire of sires, terrific broodmare sire.......... I love him so much.

I have high hopes for Honor Code.......here's hoping he represents his papa well!

If they are as good as HC looks, they are going to set the world on fire.

Huh. To be fair, it is really way too early to attach any credence to who's leading the first crop race--but that's interesting. I loved Leopard when he was racing (I have a big weakness for Sam-Son horses), but he was admittedly such a plodder I never thought he'd amount to anything as a stallion. If he keeps this up, I'll be very pleasantly surprised.

California Chrome's DBC win today adds further luster to Indy's influence. Congratulations Indy. I hope you live about as long as a horse can live, and that when your time comes to leave us, it is in a pain-free way.
