Does anyone know why he only sold for $70k as a two year old?

Furthermore, any one have an idea why Beholder's unraced half brother by Curlin is a better stallion prospect than this guy? He's in the claimers as of last four starts.

Thanks!
(and Happy Holidays!)

Breeders usually seem to prefer a horse who hasn't PROVEN that he doesn't have any talent; hence "unraced" is better than "unplaced" even if it implies unsoundness And given Deputy Striker's record, he obviously has some substantial physical issues which presumably impacted his sales price. I would guess there's something visibly off about his conformation.

That said, he doesn't have zero talent and he is racing competitively, albeit at a low level; one could hypothesize that his racing talent is above average and he's being held back by his physical issues. But that isn't a very appealing marketing angle.

And happy holidays back atcha. :D

Adding to that, Beholder's brother comes from a better immediate family. Beholder's dam is a black type winner herself and also produced Into Mischief, who is proving himself to be a very promising young sire.

Curlin is really the only noteworthy offspring Sherriff's Deputy has, and Sherriff's Deputy was unraced as well.

(and happy holidays to you!)
