This is an interview with Joe Thomas, GM of Windfields MD during it's heyday. I'm guessing around 1984...great footage of Northern Dancer, the Minstrel, Smarten, and others, including Halo actually behaving himself..

Fantastic! It would have to be 1984, since they are talking about Smarten being a first crop sire, his first foals raced in 1983. But they are also talking about a Northern Dancer - Ballade yearling, who would be Imperial Falcon(born in 1983) and a Northern Dancer - South Ocean filly, Oceana (born in 1983).
Very interesting that they talk about Halo's sale to Europe and return because of being a cribber. I read about that in a book, a month or so ago, and started a thread on here about what an impact that would have had, had he stayed in Europe.

North Ridge was the original home of Saratoga Six when he retired to stud. I still have calendars that they used to send me each year.

You can certainly tell that The Minstrel is by Northern Dancer... color aside, in body type they're practically twins.
(I am laughing about the "four white feet" discussion though
)

Thanks Vandalay for sharing this.
The video seems to be from late 1983.
One of my most precious stallion brochures is "Windfields Farm's Classic Sirelines" of 1984. Amazing reading.
FWIW, Courtly Dee was Broodmare of the year that year beating both Ballade and Kittywake.
It was a bad year for Windfields with their young stallions as Gregorian, Master Willie, Caveat and Asset proved to be very disappointing, although Deputy Minister was also retired in 1984. Shame he wasn't on the footage!!

I know- maybe he had just bred a mare and was tapped out. Not sure how old he was here- some horses get nastier with age. His temperament is notorious.

14 or 15.
I just read he moved to Stone Farm in 1984, so it had to have been shortly after this video was taken. The same page said he was always a nervous horse but becoming a stallion made him nasty.

Umm... how do you become a stallion?

I know for a fact the Halo horror stories started at Windfields...one of the stallion men, who referred to him as "that common son-of-a-b@#%" told me about when Halo had him pinned down in the corner of his stall until others came to his rescue...maybe the groom in the video was one that Halo didn't try anything with...

I meant to say breeding mares.
