US-BRED HORSES DOMINATED IN RUSSIAN DERBY

Ten from twelve runners in Bolshoi Vserosysky Prix (Russian Derby, dirt, dGd1) was born in United States! US bred horse placed in first 7 places.

The winner YUBILEY (Kitten's Joy), bred by Kenneth L. Ramsey & Sarah K. Ramsey, was bought at Keeneland September Yearling Sale for 55.000 US$

The second NEULOVIMYI (Elusive Quality), bred by Triton Farms, was also bougth at Keeneland September Yearling Sale for 50.000 US$

Wow, you're not kidding about the "dominated" part. You'll find more non-US bred horses in random allowance races at Belmont!

I'm not really surprised by this...I don't think that the Russian TB breeding program has ever really recovered from WWII, when any horse not needed to pull weapons was eaten. And in the Soviet years after that, I suspect the whole idea of breeding horses for "The Sport of Kings" was considered horribly Capitalistic and Elitist. ;) :P
I know that there are now incredibly rich Russians who may want to dive into the prestigious pursuit of breeding racehorses, but I'm pretty sure they have to find their stock in the US or Europe.
