Someone needs to convince me that inbreeding to a stallion who has a reputation for siring horses with a limited-use expiration date on their ankles and/or legs is a good thing. :?

Buckpasser was known for ridiculously fragile feet. Many of his get had to be retired early due to those problems. Some horses descended from Buckpasser are now known for soundness. Einstein and his sire Spend a buck were sound....and if I recall correctly Einstein raced until age 7 or 8.

A lot of people try to breed out the unsoundness of these horses, but as with Buckpasser, there is limited success.

Inbreeding close up is a bad choice.
The odds of getting a good foal is 1 in 4, the other 3 are disasters.

The unraced Ultimus was the product of two offspring of Domino. I just don't see the point of breeding what amounts to half siblings at all. To breed half siblings by a stallion whose progeny are prone to leg injuries is just stupid, IMO.

I recall a colt was sired by Citation out of a daughter of Citation.
I don't remember it's name.
However, it was either foaled or stood at stud around 1955.
I know he was at stud in Alberta Canada.
There was speculation at that time on what type of foals he would sire and the effect on the breed.
Here we are over 50 years later and nothing has shown up.
If you want to research his foals your best bet is The Thoroughbred Record Annual Statistical Review,
the Thoroughbred Record ceased publishing in the late 1980s,
but in my opinion they published the best, most thorough, detailed statistics I've ever seen, bar none.
Prior to 1976, the computers systems are woefully inadequate or non existent when it comes to recording Thoroughbred history.
