he's listed for a private fee this year,i dont know what the fee is.i wonder what he'll go up to for a fee?

Harris Farms has a knack for getting these seemingly low-end stallions who then achieve great things. I wonder the owners will get offers from the big KY farms?

Both the Derby and Oaks winners were sired by sons of Pulpit. Such a shame he's gone.

In this article on the Harris Farms website (google shows it was originally posted in the Sacramento Bee on April 20), it says Lucky Pulpit's stud fee rose to $10,000... but it is now shown as private, yep.

Who has Love the Chase been bred to the past two years? Does she have other foals?

I am 90% sure there is at least 1 full sibling to California Chrome

He has 2 full sisters, from 2013 & 2014.

Love the chase being a MD bred means this years derby winner has a very UN-Kentucky pedigree

I wouldn't say that. CC's dam's sire is Not For Love bred by Phipps x Mr P.

His dam is MD bred with a long line of KY decendents after his 2nd dam, Chase it Down a NY bred!

Well, if you look far enough back in any pedigree you'll find Kentucky breds,..my point was about California Chrome's immediate family..neither his sire, or damsire stand in Ky, and his 1st & 2nd dams are Md & NY bred respectively,..something you don't often see in a Derby winner

I'll bet the offers are coming in--but remember Our Emblem? Sold for 15 million after War Emblem won the Derby and I Don't think he had much subsequent success.

You also do not see $10,000 horses win the Derby, owned by a couple of Dumb Ass Yahoos (I say that because they have said that) who hit the quadrillion - fecta with their very first horse.

This was an out of body experience in every way. Except for the most important criteria: the best horse won the race.

Has any one heard just what stood out in the sire and dam's pedigrees that made them the perfect match for each other? Perhaps they do not know that there are many horses out there with similar pedigrees which can't run a damn.

Dam has sex-balanced inbreeding to Numbered Account and Northern Dancer. Add in another cross to Mr. P from Lucky Pulpit plus A. P. Indy equals a classic runner.

Actually, California Chrome was an accident. The mare was barren on the first breeding with their chosen stallion. She was supposed to go back to him, but he had been exported to Brazil. They sent her to Lucky Pulpit instead. So CC was a happy accident!

They've already turned down multiple millions, and they seem to be having so much fun with it all and living the dream, that I would be surprised if he was sold like that. Maybe they'll talk stud deals, but the money doesn't seem to be a huge driving force for them.

A Reddatore-sired Derby winner would certainly be something.

For a regional CA sire with limited numbers from each crop, Lucky Pulpit has had two Kentucky Derby starters who didn't do too badly

Rousing Sermon was 8th of 20 (right behind Union Rags) and of course California Chrome was 1st of 19.

Rousing Sermon is one of my favorites from that particular year. I'd never seen anyone try to stop and graze in the Churchill Downs paddock, but Rousing Sermon did when he was being schooled during Derby week in '12. He was so laid back that his groom took off his chain and just walked him around with the rubber-coated shank run through the halter. He tried to eat the flowers in the beds around the outside of the paddock, kept stopping to watch little kids through the bars, and he fell asleep in one of the saddling stalls.
