Two colts bring $1.6 million at OBS juvenile sale

Sons of Giant's Causeway and Tapit each brought final bids of $1.6 million within minutes of each other at Tuesday's Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's 2014 March Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale.

It looks like the market is definitely on the upswing. The pin hook flip resulted in some HUGE monster profits.

I get a kick reading the consignor and buyer comments…."will definitely be a classic horse"…."will be early"…."will go two turns"! LOL I laugh my head off every time as anyone who has bred or raced knows that horses don't follow the manual!!!! I bred a mare by a 1 1/2 turf stakes winner out of a distance family to an American turf miler and got a horse that couldn't win past 6 furlongs and only on the dirt!! hehehe

They must have crystal balls!!!

I just love the look of the Street Boss (hip 51), sold for $700,000 to Michael Lund Peterson. Nick de Meric called him a "cracker jack".

And Hip 201 by Ghostzapper. Also bought by Michael Lund Peterson.

The difference between them and you is...well, they have been doing it a long time, most of them successfully. They know what they are looking at, and what they are doing. When you've been training a horse for 6 months, you pretty much know what you have.

Plus....comments like "can't do two turns"...."won't run a lick".....and "dumbest horse I ever tried to train"....doesn't drive up business. Or a favorite buyer comments..."I wasn't really that into the horse...but I got caught up in the heat of the auction" and "well, he's no Green Monkey."

Halo..I have news for you..go back and look at all the babies they say that about and how many actually pan out…not many.

Look at the partnership formed by Lukas, Zito, and was it Baffert? They spend like 17 million and got one graded stakes horse out of a crapload of expensive babies. But, I guess the difference between them and me is I am not so arrogant to think I can predict track success of an unraced baby.

A lot of stamina chefs-de-race have c-d-r sons that are more speed influences. Look at Round Table and Apalachee.
