I'm reading about Dr. Fager and the book says that his sire, Rough N Tumble, had a plastic foot. What does that mean?

I couldn't find a reference to his foot, but this article has a photo of him. Too small to tell much about his feet, but he sure was a good-looking horse.

There is some information here, apparently his hoof problems led to the end of his career at stud, so perhaps the "plastic foot" is in reference to a treatment:

That same photo is in the book, hard to see anything. But he is a beauty.

Thanks! At least that kind of explains it, he had foundering issues. The book I read just kept alternating between plastic hoof and plastic foot, no mention of injury or illness.

I do, however, recommend the "Dr. Fager Thoroughbred Legends" book. It is a quick read, I had it done in a couple hours, honestly I wish it would have been longer. But I learned a lot about him that I didn't previously know.
