How do Into Mischief's books compare to those of Mr. Prospector or Danzig? Or on the worse side of things, Danehill, who I think is what BaroqueAgain1 was referencing with her comment about only making it to age 17.

I don't even know where to find that information for those stallions, some liberty would have to be taken for average fertility for the breed(65-75%) to account for mares that were covered and did not get in foal. So I'm going to go with the high end and add 25% to their foals of racing age, so these numbers aren't going to be correct but they'll be close enough to get an idea. Also I'm only going to use to current 2yos cause I want to throw in a shuttle stallion and don't know where to find cover numbers.

Danehill - 14 crops - 2500 foals(+25%) = 214 average book
Danzig - 24 crops - 1099 foals(+25%) = 57 average book
Into Mischief - 12 crops - 1614 foals(+25%) = 168 average book
Mr. Prospector - 25 crops - 1195 foals(+25%) = 60 average book
More Than Ready - 20 crops - 3763 foals(+25%) = 235 average book

Even if Into Mischief covered books of mares of 250 through age 30, he can't reach the average book size of Danehill or More Than Ready, both of which were shuttle stallions. Which is why I'm more against that than the big books that stallions get sometimes.

More Than Ready stood 19 seasons in Australia. He covered 2323 mares and had 1805 live foals.
Average number of mares covered: 117
Lowest: 64
Highest: 175
Average fertility percent: 85.65%
Lowest: 74.6%
Highest: 95.1%
Interesting both lowest covered and lowest fertility percent are the same year. His final year in Aus his fertility was a respectable 80%.

308 mares missed, 124 foals slipped, 22 died at birth
64 mare owners did not submit a return (usually haven't bothered because mare pensioned, deceased, or have not paid stud fee)

Using his real numbers makes the number worse because his fertility was better. he averaged 247 mares a year for 20 crops.
I don't have a problem with shuttling if they would just limit books in both places to account for the fact that the stallion is covering that many mares, but they don't.

Japan has already established itself as a top breeder of classic distance horses, but it appears they now wish to breed high quality sprinters as well. Importing stallions like Drefong, Mind Your Biscuits and Caravaggio seems to indicate a desire to put more speed into their runners.

I don't know anything about this evaluation of confirmation, but this looks to me like 'Chrome is a little long in the body. It just looks like shoulder to hip is a little bit out there. Am I just a dumpster?

It's spelled "conformation". I won't comment on the profile, but for CC it's the view from the front that's not so happy. Very narrow, and his goofy duck walk is as pronounced as ever.

I agree 100% with your statement, BaroqueAgain1.

The stamina influence is always important for racings in Japan.
But we know from experience that the speed can overwhelm the stamina in many occasions.
I look forward to seeing Nadal babies make debuts next year, too.
Also it seems that the Japanese strengthens dirt racings gradually.
With the structural reform going on, we might see more graded races on dirt in the future.

Operations like WinStar and even Darby Dan (Klimt got like 200 mares his first year) do far more damage to the breed/aftercare problem than people breeding for color, IMHO.

I've thought this for years. Most color breeders at least realize their horses are probably destined for alternative careers.

Southern Phantom, for example, was bred to a whopping 3 TB mares in 2021.

He'll probably have around or less than 100 colorful TB offspring in total, perhaps more depending, compared to...well everyone else I just mentioned.

Southern Phantom has apprently been gelded so no big contributor to the TB pool there. Only got a few TB mares the past few seasons

It has to be lack of interest and very poor interest if they had to cut his fee in half. Its normal for some stallions' fees to come down a little in their 2nd year but that is a big drop, considering they had advertised him at 30k.

Given how quiet the Rombauer camp has been in the last few months, I guess it is safe to assume he didnt get a stud deal anywhere?
