Who wants to breed to a horse who with behavioral issues severe enough to be a danger to himself and others on the track and who couldn't make it to his 3yo season before retirement?

Oh who am I kidding he'll get 200 mares his first season.
I think the behavior has to be the real reason behind the retirement. A small knee chip removal and the horse should be back able to train in 2 months. They are off over the winter. UK/Irish flat racing doesn't start until late March/early April.

I know Blackbeard has acted up before being loaded into the stalls, showing too much excitement and impatience. But has he also been reported to be mean, trying to kick/bite his grooms or riders? :?

Remember when Coolmore retired Holy Roman Emperor as a perfectly healthy 2 yo to substitute for the infertile George Washington?

He didn’t behave badly in the parade ring.

Then it doesn't seem likely he would have been retired due to poor temperament. Much more likely it's because he is a talented son of No Nay Never, the Scat Daddy son who has already become a successful sire.
Since Blackbeard has run 8 times this season with 6 wins, including 2 G1s, it's not like he's a lightly-raced juvenile. I presume there were already breeders lining up for him, so it makes sense for Coolmore to retire him now, rather than gambling that bringing the valuable colt back from surgery will work out.

After years of being famously studish in the paddock and preparade rings, I have a feeling he will take to his new job like a pro

I guess Three Chimneys is taking the quality and quantity approach with Gun Runner. They havent had a top top stallion in a long time. Now that they have one, i was interested to see if they would selective with the management of his book like Claiborne and Darley or if they’d just open the floodgates like Spendthrift and Coolmore. Guess we have our answer.

Also guess that is why they joined with the latter two farms to squash the book limit proposition.

What happened to Shancelot? I was comparing new 2021 Kentucky stallions to what they got bred to in 2022. He doesn't have a 2022 RMB. His 2021 RMB is still pending (over a year later) with these notes : Partial Fee for RMB - Dam not Properly Imported/Returned (Trompe L'Oeil (IRE)) - Mare Has Been Reported Dead (Trompe L'Oeil (IRE))

Do we think if he had gotten that coveted win in Europe he would have been standing at Coolmore Ireland? I kind of expected him to take the No Nay Never route, even though NNN was a multiple group winner in England/France.

I wonder how much they will support him with their own mares. No Nay Never didn’t start getting any of their top mares until after his first two year olds hit the track.
