He has never been terribly fertile, but he got decent sized books. Perhaps his book size really dropped off this year, or he only had a handful of mares scan in foal? I guess we won't know until the JC releases this year's report of mares bred, or Claiborne says why.
“He bred 18 or 19 mares last year,” said Claiborne stallion director Bernie Sams. “I think what we’ll do is put him up at the Marchmont stud barn and keep Lure company, and if something hits, he’s still around. That’s the plan for him.”

Edited to add: Kudos to Claiborne and the owners of this stallion. I wish more farms would do this when a stallion isn't a success. But its also nice that they aren't ruling out his return to the stallion ranks if he can get some good runners.
