The veterinarian that administered it disabled her FB page after someone on TDN's FB page found a post of hers that was finding enjoyment trying to kill an opossum with beer bottles and sticks. I saved the screen grab, too, just in-case. A bit disturbing that some of these horses are unable to escape the Mad Scientist route; even after their racing days are over. Makes you wonder how rampant these "vitamin shots" are at certain farms.Flanders wrote: ↑Thu Apr 14, 2022 8:49 pm The vet accidentally gave one or more of the shots intravenously and Laoban started going into distress less than a minute later. They said they have video of it. So while we know more now its still the same as its always been. He died after getting a shot that was mistakenly given intravenously. Even with the vitamins being 9-10 years out of date, they wouldn't have killed the horse. That was probably why they gave 5x the amount though.
I also understand why the insurance company wont pay out the insurance. You have to set standards. Otherwise, you'd get shady people offing horses for insurance money like they did back in the 80s. Its crappy that they lose the money the horse is worth but maybe they need to learn a lesson. Give the horse a freaking break if he doesn't want to breed anymore. Instead of trying to inject him with crap that probably wouldn't have done anything anyway.
And not defending WinStar here either but I guarantee there are A LOT of farms, maybe even most, that do similar things. Wanted to add they also do the same at the racetracks. Vitamins are given via shots, so if the person given it messes up, then its not going to have a good outcome.

Vitamins and mineral needs should be met via the nutritional diets that the stallions are fed. But part of me thinks that vitamin shots are probably routine at farms that overbreed their stallions cause they can't give them unlimited food. Of course that is just me typing, no facts to back that up. Or maybe its routine everywhere cause its cheaper to buy a jug of vitamins to give as shots than it is to buy supplement feed.

If I ever found out that a vet I was using had tried to beat to death an animal with beer bottles & sticks, I would fire her/his ass. And if vets have some sort of licensing Board or Association that oversees qualifications, I would see what I could do about going after their license.

So the vet is either incompetent or an absolute sociopath. Not a comforting thought.Psychotic Parakeet wrote: ↑Mon Apr 18, 2022 4:05 pm The veterinarian that administered it disabled her FB page after someone on TDN's FB page found a post of hers that was finding enjoyment trying to kill an opossum with beer bottles and sticks. I can't believe they haven't retired and bred the unraced 5 yr old Zellda, especially considering that they haven't had much production from Zenyatta.

“Those sentiments now have the Lexington farm [Spendthrift] considering exercising a clause in the sale agreement to repatriate Race Day to America should White Abarrio, who was bred by Spendthrift, or Barber Road excel at Churchill Downs on the first Saturday in May.“
