Was Risque Remarque one that they entered into the sale? I had wanted to purchase him previously before he went to Calumet, but not for breeding racehorses.
I remember that stallion...gorgeous black with unusual white markings. I thought he was a sporthorse stud.

No. It was Lentenor, Musketier, Grey Swallow, Behest, and Snapy Halo.Oasis Dream wrote: ↑Fri Dec 24, 2021 7:13 pmWas Risque Remarque one that they entered into the sale? I had wanted to purchase him previously before he went to Calumet, but not for breeding racehorses.
Not sure where Risque Remarque ended up or if he is still at Calumet. He didn't cover mares in 2019 or 2021 but did cover 11 mares in Kentucky in 2020.

I gagged when I heard the name "Colorworld Ranch" and yet their website made it so much worseCoronadosQuest wrote: ↑Sun Dec 26, 2021 6:02 pmNot sure but the Stallion Register still has him at Colorworld Ranch.Flanders wrote: ↑Fri Dec 24, 2021 9:41 pmNo. It was Lentenor, Musketier, Grey Swallow, Behest, and Snapy Halo.Oasis Dream wrote: ↑Fri Dec 24, 2021 7:13 pm

fwiw, Risque Remarque is listed as *sold* on their website because "we are retiring", and their website hasn't been updated in at least 10 years.
So... yeah, heavens knows where he ended up.

yeah that is who Calumet bought him from, I saw it said he was standing there but unless they bought him back, he hasn't stood there in quite some time. The weird thing is Calumet bred him to racing mares though I don't know that much ever came of that experiment. He has had 5 starters and 3 winners but only one runner in 2021.CoronadosQuest wrote: ↑Sun Dec 26, 2021 6:02 pmNot sure but the Stallion Register still has him at Colorworld Ranch.Flanders wrote: ↑Fri Dec 24, 2021 9:41 pmNo. It was Lentenor, Musketier, Grey Swallow, Behest, and Snapy Halo.Oasis Dream wrote: ↑Fri Dec 24, 2021 7:13 pm

I wasn't sure if the Stallion Register had to be renewed each year or not since it lists his former owner instead of Calumet. I thought it was odd that Calumet would want to buy a sporthorse stallion and then just have him vanish into thin air like that but who knows.Flanders wrote: ↑Sun Dec 26, 2021 8:33 pmyeah that is who Calumet bought him from, I saw it said he was standing there but unless they bought him back, he hasn't stood there in quite some time. It almost feels like some cherished family member wanted to compete on a colored Sporthorse, so the owner bought her/him the stallion he/she desired. It would be like a Hallmark holiday movie...except for that stallion vanishing into thin air, which for too many horses can be a bad situation.

You would think it would be but its not, especially if the stallion isn't advertised in the actual Stallion Register. There are a lot of stallions who have last fees of 2019. I think if a stallion hasn't been bred for a number of years they are removed but if they don't receive an update that a stallion was moved, they just assume he is still where it said before because he is still breeding mares(this is just my guess though).CoronadosQuest wrote: ↑Sun Dec 26, 2021 9:06 pmI wasn't sure if the Stallion Register had to be renewed each year or not since it lists his former owner instead of Calumet. Its weird but Calumet definitely bred some sport horse mares to him, including these two who both have palomino dams:
Equineline pedigree of Bourbon Truffles
Equineline pedigree of Xochimilco
They also bred racing mares to him, including 4 A.P. Indy daughters, one of which is Hence's dam, Floating Island. Its just really weird to me. Breeding a mare to big name stallions and then deciding one year, yeah screw it lets just breed her to the sport horse in the barn.
Equineline pedigree of Almost Fancy - who raced twice was unplaced, then they bred her to Keen Ice and sold her for 2k
Then this page lists him as one of their stallions: https://www.allanglos.net/horses/stallions.html
But while searching I found this from 2019, where it says the above farm has one of his sons, that Risque Remarque is owned by Calumet and is not available for use by the public. https://www.facebook.com/OTTBwestern/ph ... 175794753/

Don't remember seeing anything about it, but Irish Derby winner Santiago (Authorized x Wadyhatta) will stand at Coolmore's Castlehyde for 2022.

Spendthrift to sell their Australia farm. Does this mean they will no longer shuttle stallions for the southern hemisphere season?

Not much reason to shuttle them. Their shuttle stallions have not been popular in Australia. Omaha Beach was the most popular with 104 mares served last season (most decent Aus sires will see at least 120). Though their Aus stallions with one exception are doing extremely poorly with only 40-50 mares each.TapitsGal wrote: ↑Wed Dec 29, 2021 11:33 pm https://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing ... ium=social

I dont think anyone in this part of the world is very surprised by this as a commentator on a Australian forum I follow described it as "Spendthrift Australia had to be bleeding away money in a death by a thousand cuts. The Breed Secure incentive they had probably cost them a half a million in 4 years in lost revenue from stud fees. (Aus stallions) Overshare, Dirty Work, Swear, and Gold Standard were purchased as yearlings for a total of $2M and the only one to earn more on the track than his sales price was Gold Standard (IMO this has a lot to do with why Dirty Work's advertised fee is as high as it is). They shelled out about $600K for yearlings at 2021 Inglis Easter, they shelled out about $1.75M for mares at Gold Coast in 2020, $3.66M at 2020 Magic Millions, and goodness only knows how much money they spent on infrastructure"
Ask me any questions you have about New Zealand and Australia racing

This is almost exactly the question I had posted in the Farm News thread like 10 minutes before you posted this reply. My thoughts were, they only bought the Australia farm with the intention of shuttling their US stallions there and I believe they sent an Australian based stallion to the US once in Hampton Court, though doesn't look like he stands at Spendthrift Australia anymore. But it failed hard, none of the stallions they have sent over have done well. But I also feel its rare for a US shuttle stallion to succeed in Australia. There are only a few who I think did well enough that they continued for more than just a few years. The ones that did succeed were great stallions and did well in Australia and the US, like More Than Ready, MDO, and Street Cry. But also if they want to shuttle a stallion, they could just pick another farm to stand them at.RugbyGirl wrote: ↑Thu Dec 30, 2021 1:45 amNot much reason to shuttle them. Street Boss also shuttles to Australia and I think he's done decently, but he's also a son of Street Cry.
Spendthrift's two shuttlers are...Omaha Beach and Vino Rosso, currently. Two studs with very "dirty" pedigrees and who only ran on dirt. Even if they have the potential to sire turf horses based on their families (VR's grandpa is Street Cry and OB's dad is War Front) I can't imagine most Australian breeders would be interested in taking that much of a risk. They could be like Frosted, who has done decently in Australia, or they could totally flop. Pharoah and Justify are exceptions for obvious reasons.
I also notice only one of Spendthrift's Australian studs has foals actively racing...which I suppose isn't shocking considering a significant number of their US stallions are quickly-retired freshmen, but it's possible they're trying to get out while the getting is good, and they can get higher prices out of not-yet-proven studs.

Speaking of the late Congaree, Valor Farm posted yesterday that his headstone has been placed at the farm.
