Somebody (Flanders I think) said that Saudi Arabia has an incredibly small broodmare population that cannot support as many stallions as they import every year so he won't do much better over there either. And how public is Saudi racing and breeding anyway? I dont understand it.

The impression I get is it is just pretty 80% the male members of the royal family running their horses against each other. Their Jockey Club website isn't as well outfitted as, say, Emirates Racing Authority, but the only way I could really get a handle on how many horses they have in training was on the "Horse Ratings" section, where, by the looks of it, there are around 3,500 horses who have raced since 2019. It seems to be organized by ratings and then by last time they raced, it's kind of weird. But, they seem to have meetings Fridays and Saturdays with 8 race cards, and fields look like they are usually at least 10 horses.

With the whole boys clubs and (paternal) family aspect of it, and the literally billions of dollars they can find in their couch cushions, I don't think you can really compare whether a stallion will get a "chance" or not over there versus in an actual Thoroughbred breeding industry like USA, England, Australia, Japan, etc. I just think these guys own 30, 50, 100(?) broodmares somewhere in the desert and need 4 or 5 stallions to cover their mares every year so they can have an excuse to go out to the local track on Saturday nights and watch their homebreds beat their friends homebreds. If they really wanted to go all in on top class horse racing, we would have had a lot more Khalid Abdullahs.

That's just me entirely spitballing though. I try to dabble in all the global industries, but breeding horses in the desert sounds like hell on earth and I don't really care to follow it.

Basically, there is no commercial auction market in Saudi Arabia affect the popularity of stallions. They breed their mares and run the resulting offspring. Does that summarize it?

Its hard to get an idea of how many mares are in Saudi Arabia. They rarely update their actual studbook (it hasn't been updated since 2011) they just put out Returns of Mares supplements (last one was 2019). And they list all stallions as having 100% fertility rate, which I think I missed the first time I looked at it. So just saying they have 60% fertility rate which is more on par with TBs around the world, they probably have 2700 mares that produce 1600-ish foals each year, at least that was the number produced in 2019. They however have a lot of stallions and are constantly adding new ones. But I suppose they buy stallions to breed their own mares, maybe they let some friends use them too, and the majority probably cover 20-25 mares. I suppose its not much different than the book sizes in the US in the 80s and before. They just really like certain stallion lines, like they have a ton of sons of A.P. Indy standing there.

Two-time Japan's Horse of the Year Kitasan Black(JPN)(Black Tide) sired his much-awaited first JRA winner, as his 2yo colt Kona Black(JPN)[ o/o Kona Brewers(JPN) by King Kamehameha(JPN)] broke his maiden at second asking in Kokura 2R 1800m turf on July 18th 2021.
His second dam Ambroise(JPN) was a G3 winner & G1 runner-up.

I'm not sure where all the farms are that have lost stallions to 'heart attacks,' but the weather has been pretty awful in much of the country for the last month. Record heat, rains and high humidity can be hard on humans, so I wonder if extreme temps may have affected the horses, as well.

Usually you see the old fellas passing away in the winter time... not drinking enough water in the cold weather then tying up and colicking, or just slipping on ice or snow due to limited mobility.

But damn these last two weeks have been absolutely brutal for stallions of all ages.
