Ahhh so the real reason he was scratched from the race in December and pulled from training.Mylute wrote: ↑Mon Jan 25, 2021 5:12 pm Four Wheel Drive Sold to Stand in Japanhttps://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing ... d-in-japanSon of American Pharoah was bought by the Thoroughbred Breeders Club in Monbetsu.

Is he AP's first major son to stand stud? I can't recall any others off the top of my head.Flanders wrote: ↑Mon Jan 25, 2021 4:55 pmHe was in Keeneland November but was an out, so doesn't surprise me.BaroqueAgain1 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 25, 2021 4:01 pm Was it reported here previously that Flashback got exiled to Korea along with Dortmund?

It's possible that the breeding farm in Japan specifically sought out to buy him, so there was no "Hey this GSW AP son has to be retired whose interested" in the States.

Why would it affect anything? One other winner of the BC Juvenile Turf Sprint has gone to stud in the US and he covered 5 mares. Turf runners still aren't popular to retire to stud.

I'm not sure either, it's only been run as an official BC event 3 years.

Yeah sorry. I clicked on past winners on Equibase and forgot it was ran as a race before it was added to the BC lineup. The only horse that ever won the race that went to stud was Ocho Ocho Ocho but that was before it was even a BC race.

Lol it definitely won't affect him. Japan buys American horses all the time, and Four Wheel Drive did his best work on the turf, so it's honestly not surprising. And it's also possible that Japan sought him out, specifically (as someone already posted). He was in training pretty recently towards an Australian debut. I would bet that Japan made his owners an offer that was worth retiring for.

Top International Sire Orpen Dies at 25

Known as Lure's best son, he was also one of the most handsome horses I have ever seen. To be honest, I did not even know he was still around. And it's remarkable that his fertility was so good right until the end.

speaking of Australia and AP, I wonder how long the lover affair will last. In a region where two year old form is all, the fact he has only had 4 runners ( with no winners) by late January has to be making Australian breeders a little fidgety- more so about the lack of starters than even the no winners. Frosted has had a better beginning down under.KatieK101 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 26, 2021 6:58 pmLol it definitely won't affect him. Oakton Farm has changed their name to Stormborne Stallions in a rebrand. They took ownership of a few horses that had been standing at the cursed Stonewall property.
