Hot N Sour (o/o Egg Drop) --> Star Guitar
Interesting. I'm a fan of the son of Quiet American, but he is a LA-bred who mainly had his success running in Louisiana. Is there an connection in the ownership?

From what I can see, no. But the mare's current owner is Louisiana based, so I guess he's just choosing the best Louisiana stallion for his mare.BaroqueAgain1 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 3:42 pm Hot N Sour (o/o Egg Drop) --> Star Guitar

Interesting. It's usually either "Fee Outstanding* or a mare he covered has been reported dead in the meantime.

Is it weird for me to question why Frosted is still getting 100+ and an increase? Not that I'm complaining.

He is like in that category with Tonalist. I don't know either. They did cut his stud fee in half this year though, last year it was 20k.
If I had to guess I would say its that there isn't a huge group of proven stallions that stand for 10k. Looking at his stats vs other proven stallions at that price in Kentucky, he has 4% SWs to foals of racing age. This is tied with Jimmy Creed, Karakontie, and Lookin At Lucky. Only behind the old boys Sky Mesa(6%) and Mineshaft(5%).
Then we can add that alot of the other 10k newer stallions with foals of racing age have been pretty abandoned by breeders. Maybe the stud fee change just put him into the affordable stud fee range of different breeders who never had a chance to use him before?

I'm curious about something. As I've said before, I'm a bit knowledge-challenged on some of this stuff, and I appreciate the help.
Are they limiting Medaglia d'Oro's books because of his age (24 this year), or are his bookings just naturally leveling out beCAUSE of his age? I'm not suggesting that there's anything alarming about a 24-year-old stallion getting a book of over 100 mares (and actually a few more than he got the previous year). I'm just curious about how stud farms manage the breeding programs of stallions that are getting up in years.

I would assume they have a limit on his book. I'd guess its 110 and they fit in a couple more mares. I'm pretty sure they have limits on all their stallions, which I know looking at the list, it doesn't look like it. But I think its 160 and then they'll fit in some mares if they can. When they shuttled Astern to the US, they put a limit of 120 on his book. We don't have the 2022 covering/2023 foaling stats yet but 2021 covering/2022 foaling he got 72% fertility(which is really good).Missbeholder wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 8:20 pmI'm curious about something. But book size for an older stallion depends a lot on the stallion himself. First they drop the book size just because of a stallion's age. Then if his fertility starts declining they'll drop the book size to see if they spread the breedings out more, if fertility will improve. Really I think stallions only get pensioned if they have some physical limitation or their fertility completely drops off. Like Mr. Prospector still covered a book of 47 mares at age 29 and got 83% fertility(which is a phenomenal fertility rate). Yeah he was put down later that year but it was from inoperable colic because of his age.

And they had doubled his stud fee this year. So hopefully that means better quality mares.Palace Malice wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 9:43 pmNice to see Midshipman getting some love, he is underrated.

Darley has the most evenly distributed numbers of all of them so far. That's impressive.

I'm really happy to see Oscar Performance is being embraced by the industry.
On an unrelated note, can someone check City Gift(dam of Maple Leaf Mel)? She hadn't been bred since 2020, she had an unnamed Brody's Cause colt in 2021. But her papers were reissued in September 2022, though that doesn't mean she was bred.
