My sweet little princess. I’m so happy to see her retire safe and sound, but I’m also devastated I won’t see her run again. I remember thinking what a silly name for a horse, mom told me that sometimes the silliest names make it the furthest.. and what do you know, she really did. <3Flanders wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 10:01 pm Goodnight Olive --> Not This Time

welcome to your daily reminder that i have nothing better to do with my life. i'm just not going to try and find their pedigree pages to add anything else that might not have been mentioned because doing that with US-based mares already makes me want to bash my head against a wall. but here y'all go for easier viewing:

I would love to have the translations of all those Arabic names.
The definitions I have seen can be lovely but, with so many names, it's hard to find all the translations.

Its going to be hard. They all have a meaning but they are another language with their own alphabet translated to English spelling but not English meaning. Like you wouldn't able to use a translator, you would need to search each name separately and get creative. There could also be different meanings depending on the original base language. Just because they are from the UAE and so use Arabic, doesn't mean they aren't using words from other places.brunanas wrote: ↑Fri Feb 09, 2024 7:12 pmi looked around quite a lot and it seems most of them don't really mean anything, not that i could find at least. i can do better searching tomorrow thoughBaroqueAgain1 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 09, 2024 6:18 pm I would love to have the translations of all those Arabic names.

I'll do the first 2 names but it doesn't even mean what I found is right. "Adool" could be Judge, Declining/Refusing, Resilement(which I've never heard of so I had look up the definition and it means 1. To spring back, especially to resume a former position or structure after being stretched or compressed. 2. To draw back; recoil.), every result seemed to be different and it said the meaning Judge was a male name.
Or the 2nd Alaflaak, if I search that word, nothing comes up but her. However I thought what if there is actually supposed to be a break in the name. Like Al-Aflaak, that provided results and could be from Tashreeh Al-Aflaak, which is a book written in the 1600s in Iran about Astronomy. They've used the name Tashreeh before but it could just be a coincidence and they wanted to use both words. Al means the, Aflaak means - The heavens, heavenly bodies; celestial orbs or spheres. So her name could mean The Heavens. Its so hard to know. Its almost impossible to know for sure and it took an incredibly long time to just search those two. You couldn't pay me to look up 40+. It would take forever.
