Northport wrote: Mon Jul 27, 2020 2:25 pm It's kind of strange though that they don't really race much anymore, because I remember on one of the virtual farm tour videos they posted in March/April, the host mentions that they don't offer boarding and that all the mares on the farm (can't remember the exact number, but I want to say 80-100?) are owned by Hughes. I know they are doing yearling sales prep, but does anyone know what vendor they use? Because they must be selling a lot, of not most, of their yearlings, but I never really see their name in any headlines for sale toppers or as breeders of at least graded stakes calibre horses. Or I'm just reading all the wrong articles - also a very real possibility.
I know I already replied to this once but I didn't count how many they sold. Its really only around 30-ish at most yearlings and a handful of 2yos, sometimes they sell a few weanlings and a couple broodmares. Look at the sales prices on the weanlings for 2019...ouch.

In other years they do have listings under other Spendthrift names, it just depends how the sales results were entered in this database for this, which kind of makes it a pain to use. But the vast majority are usually under that name that I linked above, so its easy to change years and search again.
Mylute wrote: Mon Jul 27, 2020 5:29 pm I don't think I've seen a lot of Spendthrift-breds either. This is odd.
From the past couple years I really only recognized a few names, Mia Mischief, Gas Station Sushi and Fauci.
Big yikes on the weanling sales. They fared a bit better with yearlings, with the top priced being an American Pharoah for $250,000 sold to Qatar Racing... though so so results with foals by their best two stallions, Into Mischief and Malibu Moon. Looking back it seems 2018 was a better year in terms of how many six figure horses sold, with 2017 even better than that. Temple City really seems to have gotten some huge sale prices considering his still modest stud fee, though none of the yearlings that sold in 2018 or 2017 for big money really made noise on the track.

Also, I found the video where how many (approximately) horses they have mentioned, in the first minute or so.
https://www.facebook.com/spendthriftfar ... 909167845/
24 stallions
100 mares
85 foals
50 yearlings

There's also a son of Harlans Holiday named Hannibal Lecter.
I think the Miggs thing would be even better if he was named "Multiple Miggs"

Well you see I'm actually a big fan of the Hannibal Lecter series, I just wouldn't name my horse Miggs because of that scene haha.

Also, @ Gemini I have good news for you.

Well Hello Clarice g. Hannibal Cat x Bringithomemaggie (2000)
Agent Starling f. Fed Biz x Bellamy Twist (2017)
Gannibal Lektor c. Raison D'Etat x Poetically Perfect (2016)

In the last book, Hannibal, you learn more about the Verger clan than you do in the film (which is to be expected from a 600+ page book). You learn that the Verger father had a small string of thoroughbreds, and his best horse, Fleet Shadow, was preserved after death. I have wanted to name a horse this.

I started the "Hannibal" book a long time ago and just couldn't get through it. It didn't appeal and I think Starling's character wasn't very deep. On the other hand, I snagged a copy of "Hannibal Rising" that the local library was throwing out, and I enjoyed it much more.

Its a town and lake in Florida. Just looks like they picked a completely random name for this one.

Isn't that Harley Quinn's full last name? If it is, given the filly's parents names, I think its very clever.

For whatever reason I couldn't remember if Quinzel was Harley Quinn's last name or if it was the name of a pokemon.
