I feel like the JRA is missing out on a huge opportunity by making merch unavailable to overseas folk.

If they sent merch over to sell at little "stations" in racetrack giftshops I bet they'd make some good cash. We don't really have merch like that in the US. For example, the only plushies we can get are Secretariat and Pharoah, lol.

'Chrome never seems to take a bad photo. His reliably-proud posture and alert expression are a photographer's dream. :D

The stallion manager at TM really didn't like how high Chrome holds his head and, while he always looks proud and alert, it makes for a less-than-ideal conformation shot. Fortunately, they were able to get him to lower it somehow when they were taking his official conformation pics at TM.

I think it makes him look kinda daring.

Too bad the stallion manager at TM never met this horse who also had a high head carriage. {By the way, 2020 marks 100 years since his legendary 3-year-old racing season.}

Exactly Ridan. Apparently the Japanese appreciate his looks.

Hi PT...they seem to. Chrome made the local papers on his arrival at Arrow, and the folks at Arrow have very kindly shared lots of photos and some video clips on their Twitter feed. They are very proud of their new rock star stallion :D

While I'm right there with you, the JRA doesn't *have* to look for overseas merch opportunities because they regularly sell out of the merch they do offer, right there at home.

Now if we could just get the Sanrio/Hello Kitty trucks & cafes & popup shops to offer the Hello Kitty jockey plushie here in the USA... I think the most recent was Almond Eye. *sighs mournfully*

That is funny because the first thing I thought about when seeing that conformation pic from Japan was some of the pictures of MOW and Will Harbut as he aged. Chrome and MOW certainly appear to have been put together pretty similarly. Of course MOW was a bit heftier.

I was thinking the same thing...Man O War!
Give me that short lead, give me that win by a nose, get them all home safely!

Ah, my favorite horse of all time.........Man o' War. I adore the way he holds his head; I remember reading that it looked as if he was gazing far into the distance.......Below, you can see that even as a baby he held his head proud...Below is another one of him as a baby; I can't get enough of him.......

Then, AP Indy, one of my top few of all time, probably right after his sire. Lane's End has taken marvelous care of him - he looks fantastic; I love how he's staring right at the camera, lol.

My internet was out for almost 24 hrs, so I'm catching up on response to some of the posts above.

Yep, Man o' War and California Chrome are quite similar in their general body lines, including set of neck, head carriage and length of loin behind the saddle. Although distant, Chrome has multiple crosses of Man o' War, so I have often wondered if Chrome is in some ways a throwback to the MoW type.

I love A. P. Indy so much and am grateful he has been able to live a long happy life. Happy Birthday Indy. However many you may still have, I'm just glad to have shared the planet with you and seen you run in person.

It's gratifying that Chrome has been so well received in Japan. I hope he becomes a great sire for Arrow.

I think this country will live to regret selling him off.

Our loss will be Japan's gain, yet again.

Prospective (Malibu Moon x Spirited Away, by Awesome Again) was sold to South Korea. He's listed as an import on the Let's Run site.

Also imported recently was Central Command (Into Mischief), a winner from the family of Arch, Courtly Dee, etc.

Here's an apparently 36 year old horse at Lex Stud. Google translate isn't helping with the name.

We should start a thread for keeping up with the mega-seniors. I know Japan had a 40 year old pass last year, which is more than likely the longest-lived thoroughbred on record (that should be substantiated more).

Also..I'd like to know if Roxie's Ringer is still around. He got the title of oldest (known) in the USA after Prospect Point died. I was hoping TDN would do a follow up on him.
