Rough night. Pontchatrain died trying to deliver her foal. Foal didn't survive either. Pontchatrain was an absolutely brilliant filly, the only horse in Glen Hill Farm history to win four consecutive stakes races, starting with the Unzip Me, then the G3 Senator Ken Maddy, then the G2 Monrovia, and finally the G2 Buena Vista. She was a sweet horse to be around as well.
from Glen Hill Farms' FB page. not the news anyone likes waking up to.
Oh man, this stinks. Loved watching her run. :-(

Royal Delta has died from foaling complications. Her Galileo filly survived.

How very sad, I saw this on the Blood Horse. At least the foal survived so that is some comfort to her owners.

I too am so devastated to hear this. She was one of my all time favourite mares :'( And she had so much potential as a broodmare! I really hope this filly is a cracker, and that the half sisters to Royal Delta can pass on their mother's line.

I wonder if this tragic loss will increase interest in her full brother, Classic Empire oops...I mean Empire Way, as a stallion? His genetics may have just gotten a lot more precious.

(empire way! though i understand the slip)

looks like he's standing in CA for $5k, currently.

not sure they'd move him elsewhere, i don't know how well he's doing, but i guess it's possible, now.

Babies are great, but the old girls are the best. Retired mares Sheila Purple and Serena's Song out enjoying the January sunshine today. Those of you who know Serena will recognize her famous attitude!

That photo of Hasili, Tarocchi and Midsummer is quite touching. It's almost as though Tarocchi and Midsummer are protecting Hasili.

Spendthrift is planning to allow fans to visit Beholder via a Horse Country tour. Their first priority was getting her settled in and in foal, but I think once foaling season is winding down, you will see them announce the opportunity.
