I've read from two different places on FB that she died from hemorrhaging after foaling and that the foal did survive and is currently doing well. Apparently Coolmore confirmed this with multiple people who emailed them.
Very sad news. Her and Delta Princess are big losses.

How the manager of a place like Coolmore mixes up one of the top US broodmares with another horse, I will never understand...
I sent Dermot Ryan an email earlier this evening asking him specifically about Vertigineux's date of death and her Tapit foal. Hopefully now that he's realized his error, he'll give an accurate response.

That doesn't wash, because she was bred back to Tapit after foaling her last (the Street Cry colt). Her produce record does not indicate that she foaled a Tapit, likely because she died sometime after being bred to him.Kay16 wrote:I've read from two different places on FB that she died from hemorrhaging after foaling and that the foal did survive and is currently doing well. Well, if the manager mixed up mares, it would be the other mare's foal who survived, not the 14 Vertigineux. Which I guess is a silver lining for that sad situation...Kay16 wrote:I've read from two different places on FB that she died from hemorrhaging after foaling and that the foal did survive and is currently doing well. I agree though, I understand they have a jillion broodmares but how do you forget/mix up something like that?? When you know it would/will likely go viral??

The most logical scenario, based on the little solid information/evidence we DO have, would be that Vertigineux gave birth to her Street Cry colt in 2013, was shortly after in foal to Tapit, and sometime between May and December of 2013 (since Haskin said she died "a couple years ago"), got colic and passed away, along with the Tapit foal she was carrying.

Something else to add to the confusion from the Spectacular Bid facebook page an hour ago. But at least in this post, the Tapit foal survived. RIP Vertigineux, you sure made a mark in this world!

Vertigineux death is not a rumor. The mare passed away back in 2014 due to hemorrhaging post-foaling.
There is not much details on it but Coolmore has confirmed the death to a few people who have emailed them about the mares death.
The half brother to 2010 Horse Of The Year, Zenyatta has survived and is doing well.

If the foal survived, wouldn't it be listed in the JC? There is no registration status for a 2014 foal from her.

Yeah but where they start to argue in the comments, the pic that Coolmore posted to their FB page (I linked it back a page or two) is the 2013 colt, NOT the 2014 Tapit foal. So they're confused and passing on the same confusing info.Sparrow Castle wrote:Something else to add to the confusion from the Spectacular Bid facebook page an hour ago. Would not want to be Dermot Ryan right now... I wonder how many of those emails he replied to before realizing the mix-up? And if/when they will actually put out a clarifying statement.

Yeah, I'm the one who has been having the "argument" with the Thoroughbred Champions page (hehe), asking him/her to show solid proof of the Tapit foal, to no avail. The page is just run by another fan, not someone in the know, and their evidence of V's death is the same evidence that we all have - emails from Coolmore passed along by other people.
To add - the only reason the admin of that page thinks the Tapit foal is alive is because someone commented on their post earlier saying so. The page's admin then asked "proof? pictures?" or something, to which the commenter never responded, and now for some reason the page's admin is backing it up like they know it's true anyway. I wouldn't believe it.

Yeah, it's more likely she died from colic and the Tapit foal didn't survive. Only Coolmore Ashford can clear this up. I hope they do.

It was on Facebook. I havent heard from Coolmore directly if she actually had her Tapit foal. I would have mentioned it here if I found out an direct answer from the farm, but they have not....
and they also did not say WHEN she passed away, the answer i got was that she died post foaling. No year was given- so its either 2014 or 2015. I know she would have been buried at Winter Quater farm, since there is a clause on the sale of the mare.
