Good news for his Aussie babies!

yes and no? Yes, it is great his progeny like the turf, but for the most part, two year old turfers in America are on that surface because they aren't the typical dirt two year speedsters, even in the shorter turf races. Certainly, there are exceptions and Coolmore appears to have really tried to get him off quickly with their Ward partnership. I do think he will get plenty of two year old winners in Australia because again he has been bred to a helluva broodmare band. Just wonder if he will get a Golden Slipper type of winner.

Like, yes, they have a bottom line and shareholders who need returns, but having a stallion cover 400~ mares in his first 2-3 seasons, then sell him to a regional market once he has recouped his purchase price and (often) before his 2nd or even 1st crop has hit the track... like, that isn't a stallion making business, it's barely even a 'farming' or racing business.

You're all welcome for this 'hot take' of the day. More pie in the sky stuff from a millennial who can't afford to own one leg of a racehorse.
Interesting take. Never really thought of it that way. Who is making them then?

If I've learned anything having money does not often correlate with intelligence so your own tax bracket doesn't mean anything.
I mean, when it comes to WinStar at least, their top stallions are the old boys club of Tiznow, Congrats, Distorted Humor, and Speightstown. Along with Pioneerof the Nile, there's 5 of their best stallions ever and they only started the careers of Tiznow and Speightstown.

IIRC, Starspangledbanner was also deemed 'subfertile,' but he has apparently responded to whatever treatment he got and is siring good runners.
First horse I thought of too and from memory they just put him on the back of the farm and let him be a horse. Interestingly his close relative Il Cavallo had the same problem (they gelded him and put him back in training  ) Starspangledbanners Australian fertility percentages are interesting:
2011 - 37.4%
2012 - Did not breed
2013 - 51.0%
2014 - 51.0%
2015 - 65.3%
2016 - 62.4%
2017 - 76.5%

Last year another first season sire Menari was also subfertile (at first the farm tried to blame the mares) he went back into training last Jan, reinjured himself in March, and now stands for about a quarter of last years stud fee

I see that Bay of Plenty is listed as a padrillo on El Turf, but no stud farm listed. Anyone know where he's standing? Most of El Turf requires an account to view. Is it free?

I see a lot of US based horses on that list so it might still be in America. I have always tried to follow that horse since the Bay Of Plenty is in New Zealand

I'm not surprised by it given some of the strongest broodmares with the strongest record on and off the track, that Coolmore supported him with were Turf mares. I believe Coolmore was fully intent on making Pharoah a super sire, for which they knew they'd need to get results on turf early on from the global pov. We know PotN could sire turf runners and even dual surface runners (Midnight Storm deserves more mentions). And we also knew that Pharoah babies likely weren't gonna be the super early super precocious dirt sprinting types.

Its free but prepare for your inbox to be sent tons of crap emails everyday not just from them. I blocked their emails after I signed up, unless its changed since then. I can't access it anymore.

Not having a great deal of luck but what I've found seems to point to Peru. The one webpage won't load for me, it keeps giving errors but it looks like he might a 2018 foal out of Yes Flanders Yes or maybe he covered her in 2018 for a 2019 foal. But she is Peruvian bred.
2018081300224, 2018, S.N.2018-224, BAY OF PLENTY (USA), YES FLANDERS YES, FLANDERS FIELDS (USA). (if anyone knows what any of this means, its from studbookperu.com but the webpage will not load.

Not exactly news but dual G1 winner Grunt (O'Reilly) looks the part. He enters stud this year in Australia.

Perhaps.

But in the meantime he will have had a chance to succeed as a sire in Kentucky. Isn't that better than not having a chance at all?

The point people are missing is that Into Mischief is the farm's flagship stallion and he's difficult to book. He's out of reach for most breeders and he's already full for next year. When he first started to take off big-time, Goldencents was an option for those who couldn't get into IM or didn't have a bigger stud fee. My understanding is that Goldencents is pretty tough to get to now, himself. It makes sense for the farm to have other sons of IM for all the breeders who want IM but can't get to him or even Goldencents.

Coolmore hasn't said anything about it, but I wonder how accessible Practical Joke is? With the success of Goldencents at stud, and if he's hard to get ahold of now, I would assume PJ isn't having trouble filling his books. He was exceptional on the track as well.

He got 220 mares in 2018. I think the 2019 numbers should be out soon?

They came out in October last year, mid-Oct I think.

Speaking of Coolmore, I saw that Order of St. George was the most popular of the 2019 freshmen in Ireland, jumps or flat (IIRC).

275 mares....is....a lot. Thank god he's a stayer with stamina, he needed all of it this season.
