When I first saw the photo of Royal Delta's foal with her foster mom, I thought the mare looked like a Gypsy Horse, but couldn't be sure until I saw the feet.
Now Coolmore has provided an article about their foster mares and, while it's not surprising that they make it all sound OK, it is good to know that they do try to find homes for the foster mares' foals. And, yes, Royal Delta's baby is with a Gypsy mare. Looks like most of their foster mares are Gypsies or some sort of draft type.

I knew they used Irish Cob mares because they posted the video linked in that article on their page last year or the year before.
And the mares all look like Irish Cobs to me which would make more sense than most other draft breeds as they're relatively easy keepers compared to the larger ones, and a lot more common over there too in general. Maybe they're crossed with other unregistered Cob types as well but I suppose the term 'Irish Cob' once referred more to a type than a distinct breed as it is today.

Is 'Irish Cob' interchangeable with 'Gypsy Horse,' a breed which also has a 'Gypsy Cob' registry? (So confusing ) I've been under the impression that a 'cob' tends to be on the smaller side, like 13-14 hands.
I know a Gypsy Horse breeder, a neighbor of my sister's, and her horses range from about 13 1/2 to 15 1/2 hands. She also had a striking B&W boy who hit 16 hands. Think he's now with a dressage trainer.
The horses are so laid back...even the stallions are mellow. I can see why a breeding farm like Coolmore would favor mares with breeding like that.

Not exactly, a Cob (as in the cob type) is always larger than a pony so 14.2 or higher but are small and usually stoutly built and compact. Generally a Cob is a horse between 14.2hh and 15.3hh that has a characteristic all purpose hard build. The Welsh Cob (ie Welsh Sec. D) exemplifies the cob type.
G*psy Cob, G*psy Vanner etc. is the American name for the breed. The registry is the Irish Cob Society in Ireland and that's how they're referred to in the UK and Europe (occasionally they'll also be called Tinkers).
That is to say, an Irish Cob is not the same as a generic Cob type horse from Ireland and refers specifically to the hardy cobs used by the Irish Travellers often characterised by good feathering and a perhaps even more compact build than the average cobs.
The Irish Cobs do come in a range of sizes from pony to 17hh but this was not necessarily the case traditionally, and it is my understanding they are being crossed with lighter trotters and horses to create a more 'sporty' version.

Thanks for your information. I'd forgotten about the 'Gypsy Vanner' appellation.
I've seen Gypsies produce some attractive crosses, with Friesians being especially popular for cross-breeding.
But (at least for the breeders I know) those crosses aren't registered as Gypsy Horses. IIRC, an offspring of a half-Gypsy with a registered Gypsy parent (3/4) has to be bred back to a Gypsy, and that offspring (7/8) can be registered.
With the Irish Cob's/Tinker's "interesting" history, I suspect that the bloodlines of horses who supposed to be purebred 'Gypsies' are still likely to be full of all sorts of breeds, if you go back far enough.

Oh my, what an adorable photo that one is of mom nuzzling her baby. And the foal is so cute with her white fuzz. Gold Ship is gray, and the filly has a lot of white hairs in her coat. But it would be fun if she stayed black with those white fuzzy patches.
