I can only hope then, that he will be one of those horses who thrive on racing and that he will improve form throughout the TC

Defending champion Straight Girl(JPN), 2009M. Fuji Kiseki(JPN) x Never Period(JPN) by Taiki Shuttle(USA), blew away her rivals in the G1 Victoria Mile in stakes record.
She became the first 7yo mare ever to capture a G1 title in JRA history.
The decision by her connections to keep her in training at 7 proved successful.

Newsday article about Lani.
Preakness Stakes runner Lani a cantankerous colt
Preakness Stakes runner Lani a cantankerous colt
Clocker Gary Young described a typical Lani morning for the Louisville Courier-Journal: “As the beast stepped onto the track, he looked like Russell Crowe entering the Colosseum in ‘Gladiator.’ ” Not what an exercise rider wants to see, and Eishu Maruuchi admitted that Lani runs the show.
http://www.newsday.com/sports/horseraci ... 1.11805022It will be Tanaka’s first trip to Pimlico, but thanks to YouTube, he’s familiar with its venerable infield tradition, “The Running of the Urinals.” Drunks sprint on top of two rows of portable toilets as other revelers hurl full beer cans at them.
Too bad it’s been banned, because it’s Lani’s kind of scene.

I'm surprised they didn't bother to mention how his trip in the Derby also contributed to his finish and how he did well to finish in spite of it. Bumped at the start by a Pletcher horse (ironic since Pletcher was whining about Lani a few days before and how he was worried being next to him in the starting gate) then again forced ridiculously wide in the final turn. Wonder what was the total distance he ran.Sparrow Castle wrote:Newsday article about Lani.

I also find it bizarre they describe him as not having any speed since he's shown impressive turn of foot on grass. But maybe that is a optical illusion rather than actual acceleration.
If he can get his mind off the fillies for a bit... he really could go places.

A Shin Hikari went off favored in the Prince of Wales's at Royal Ascot, but could not sustain his lead in home stretch. Found looked home a winner (you go, girl!) but just got nipped at the wire by My Dream Boat...the longest shot in the race.

Ugh, A Shin Hikari may have to be remembered as one of the most overrated horses of all-time.BaroqueAgain1 wrote:A Shin Hikari went off favored in the Prince of Wales's at Royal Ascot, but could not sustain his lead in home stretch. He was not even a G1 winner in Japan.

Wanted to check on the status of Buchiko (Jpn), the JRA site says that she was scratched by the stewards again at Tokyo on June 4.

I believe she has been banned from racing for a month/needs to pass another gate test after her - quite frankly terrifying - antics on June 4Walla Walla wrote:Wanted to check on the status of Buchiko (Jpn), the JRA site says that she was scratched by the stewards again at Tokyo on June 4.

Yikes, that was scary. Can't believe she managed to get under the gate like that and then get tangled into the outer rail. Glad she will fight another day.Northport wrote:I believe she has been banned from racing for a month/needs to pass another gate test after her - quite frankly terrifying - antics on June 4Walla Walla wrote:Wanted to check on the status of Buchiko (Jpn), the JRA site says that she was scratched by the stewards again at Tokyo on June 4.

Yes, that is scary. Strange she seemed to be calm for so long while the other horses loaded. Too bad she seems to have become a head case.
