I saw this and my heart is heavy. He was a favorite of my husband and I.

Such a sad day.

Coolmore relocate top-level hero Magician from Ashford Stud to Castle Hyde
Son of Galileo will cover at a fee of €7,500

Irish 2,000 Guineas hero Magician is returning to the country of his birth after Coolmore announced on Thursday the son of Galileo is to relocate to Castle Hyde Stud in County Cork from Ashford Stud in Kentucky.

Currently in quarantine in the United States, Magician will arrive at his new base on May 6 and will start covering mares immediately at a fee of €7,500.

Out of the Mozart mare Absolutelyfabulous, he is a brother to Grade 3 scorer Apple Betty and the Grade 1-placed Oustanding and from the family of four-time top-level performer Henrythenavigator.

Magician was trained by Aidan O'Brien to win five races including a six-length demolition of the opposition when shedding his maiden in the September of his juvenile season at the third time of asking.

At three he made a winning reappearance in the Group 3 Dee Stakes at Chester before going on to a first top-level success in the Irish 2,000 Guineas. He would subsequently add the Breeders' Cup Turf to that victory later in 2013, defeating The Fugue by half a length at Santa Anita.

As a four-year-old he won the Group 3 Mooresbridge Stakes and finished runner-up in three top-level events - the Tattersalls Gold Cup, the Prince of Wales's Stakes and the Arlington Million.

Santa Anita: Cat Burglar retires to Barton Thoroughbreds
Cat Burglar, who won the 2016 Santana Mile at Santa Anita, has been retired and will stand the current breeding season at Barton Thoroughbreds in Santa Ynez, Calif., the farm announced on Friday.

Cat Burglar was fourth in the Santana Mile at Santa Anita on March 31 in his final start. Owned by Michael Lund Petersen and trained by Bob Baffert, the 7-year-old Cat Burglar won 6 of 22 starts and earned $538,720.

By Unbridled's Song, Cat Burglar appeared in 11 stakes. Last year, he was second in the Grade 3 Precisionist Stakes at Santa Anita and third in the Grade 2 San Diego Handicap at Del Mar.

Cat Burglar will stand for $2,500, according to the farm's statement.

Cat Burglar is out of Be My Prospect, who did not race. By Forest Wildcat, Be My Prospect is a half-sister to Away, the dam of Eight Belles, who finished second in the 2008 Kentucky Derby.

Cat Burgler has a very nice pedigree and a decent race record. He must have had a good temperament, since BB used him to work next to some priceless horseflesh. He's a good-looking UBS son who is retiring sound after a long career; I hope breeders support him.

I haven't been bummed about losing a horse in a while until I heard that Giant's Causeway had passed. I visited Ashford in August, dragging my non-horse racing friends there specifically because I wanted to see him with my own eyes before it was too late. He was in the back of his stall, eating hay, with zero interest in coming to see us  He had one of his legs bandaged but was still stunning.

New Mexico sire Delhomme moves to A & A Ranch
Delhomme, a Grade 2 winner, has relocated to A & A Ranch in Anthony, N.M., where he will stand for an advertised fee of $1,500.

The 8-year-old son of Dixie Union previously stood at Born Running Ranch in Deming, N.M., where he entered stud in 2014.

Delhomme’s first foals are 3-year-olds of 2018. He has sired four winners from six starters for combined progeny earnings of $54,438.

Trained by Todd Pletcher for the partnership of WinStar Farm and Twin Creeks Racing Stables, Delhomme won one of four starts for earnings of $86,800. He finished third in the Grade 2 Remsen Stakes.

Delhomme was bred in Pennsylvania by William Backer, out of the stakes-winning Out of Place mare Art Show, who is the dam of five winners from six foals to race. He is from the family of stakes winners Art Student and Pink Pallet and Grade 3-placed Dive for Cover.

Free Drop Billy to Spendthrift at End of Racing Career
Kentucky Derby contender Free Drop Billy (Union Rags–Trensa, by Giant’s Causeway), winner of last year’s GI Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity, will stand at Spendthrift Farm at the end of his racing career, the nursery announced Monday. The sophomore is owned by Albaugh Family Stables, which also campaigned Brody’s Cause (Giant’s Causeway), who now stands at Spendthrift.

“We are delighted to be working with the Albaugh family again to stand Free Drop Billy,” said Ned Toffey, General Manager at Spendthrift Farm. “He’s a great-looking horse who’s proven to be talented, precocious and consistent and he’s from a proven sire’s family. He’s a very complete stallion prospect, and he’ll make a great addition to our roster.”

Interesting.
Taylor Made Farm Purchases Famous New Zealand Standardbred
Taylor Made Farm, already established as a top breeding and sales operation for Thoroughbreds, has reportedly purchased one of New Zealand's best harness horses.
Harnesslink reports Taylor Made Stallions is the buyer on what is estimated at a $4 million deal for Lazarus, who has earned $3.8 million in the country. The report states Lazarus will be aimed at a “possible four-race mini career” in the States, which could include a run at Lexington's Red Mile track to improve his credibility as a dual hemisphere prospect.
