Now this one, idk is the horse standing weird or is his one back leg so crooked that you can see his entire heel???
Image
this one sold for $180k...? sure it's not a LOT, but still wild. his leg does look extremely off in the ring.
In my experience, it is VERY common for horses to cock their right hind foot out like that when standing for a conformation-type photo.

given this guy is a ½ brother to MGSW Soldat and by a good sire in Bernardini (and from his last crop), i'd have to think might not have vetted the best as he hammered at $15,000. not the prettiest yearling at the sale, but...?

Hip 1222 - f. Improbable x Dear Elaine 80,000

Hip 1424 - c. War of Will x Ready Signal - he looks like War Front. 100,000
Hip 1444 - c. Sky Mesa x Salute - half to Mr Speaker, Fire Away, Vigilante's Way. Surprised to see a Phipps family this far into the catalogue. 100,000

Hip 1488 - f. Caravaggio x Stayclassysandiego 225,000

Hip 1495 - f. Tapit x Successful Outlook - full to Anchor Down and Iron Fist, but more importantly, it looks like her left front leg is forgetting to turn grey like the rest of her. 350,000
I'll be following Hip 1495 to see if she does indeed have a bloody shoulder. Hopefully she stays stateside.

Re: Hip 1444, I'm kind of surprised the catalog makes no note of his 1/2 brother Snap Decision's 3 G1 wins and has him in lowercase letters. Do hurdle graded stakes not count as black type? Also $100k seems low for a horse with 4 graded-stakes winning siblings whose granddam is Personal Ensign. He didn't look bad in the ring.

this one has to have vetted pretty horribly, no? i mean, not the greatest pastern conformation (a bit short & steep) but $55k for a filly o/o a ½ to Shedaresthedevil?

I noticed that myself when looking through the catalog. They do not count as blacktype. They are in italic to note that though.

I'm copying this from the IFHA, who decides catalog standards, and separates countries into Parts I, II, and III and then Part IV is:
PART IV
Part IV, on yellow paper, is the Jump Race Supplement, which lists steeplechase and hurdle races contested in countries comprising Parts I, II and III of this publication. These races are listed in italic form in sales catalogues and regional preferences determine if the italic form is black type.

HURDLE OR JUMP RACES
Hurdle and jump races were included in Parts I, II and III of the “International Cataloguing Standards” book and qualified for black type status dependent upon their placement until January 1, 1986. Beginning with this date,
these races were placed in Part IV of the publication and lost their black type status for catalogues produced using North American ICSC guidelines. Horses which won or placed in a hurdle or jump race since January 1, 1986 are now identified by their names carried in italic mixed case.

I would assume she has some issue to sell for that price. But it might not be that major, it might just be something that scares buyers off and others are willing to take a chance. Zenyatta only sold for 60k cause she had some skin disease when she went through as a yearling.

The Zenyatta sale in 2005 was really a perfect storm, timing wise, for Jerry, Ann, and David. Zenyatta was first-crop Street Cry so nobody really knew what he might become and that sale was before Street Sense burst on the scene the following year.. Her half-sister Balance was only a 2yo that year and hadn't yet become a GI winner. Their dam, Vertigineux, was not an accomplished race horse, and until Balance, hadn't produced anything of note.

Add to that her unreal size as a yearling filly, which I think tends to turn buyers off a little bit when looking for fillies, and the stupid, treatable skin rash.

When all is said and done, I really don't think it was that much of a surprise that they got her for only $60K!

David Ingordo said on a recent interview that when the hammer fell, he had the horrible feeling that he'd bought the wrong horse as he expected her to go for around $200k. Interview when he was visiting Z and uh, Nymue.
I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

Buyers get turned off by scars from superficial skin injuries. It could really be anything.

Session 9 horses I like...

Hip 2793 - c. Kantharos x Warrior Hall - his female family traces back to Courtly Dee.
Hip 2795 - f. Higher Power x What What What
Hip 2801 - c. Union Rags x Wizardry
Hip 2822 - f. Liam's Map x August Snow
Hip 2826 - f. Liam's Map x Bareeqa
Hip 2828 - c. Caravaggio x Becky's Best - he's half to Becky's Joker, who won the Schuylerville this year, and he's a looker. Also he's listed as grey but I'm not sure he's greying out?
Hip 2829 - c. Honor AP x Beersheeba - that is definitely a gulastra plume.
Hip 2856 - f. Improbable x Caribbean Babe
Hip 2885 - c. Nyquist x Cut in Stone
Hip 2896 - c. Daredevil x Delightful
Hip 2899 - f. Honor AP x Diastole - maybe the least flashy Honor AP I've seen.
Hip 2906 - c. Malibu Moon x Dude Fantasy
Hip 2919 - c. McKinzie x Enamored - FLASHY dude.
Hip 2925 - f. Ghostzapper x Everything - female family of Arcangelo.
Hip 2930 - c. McKinzie x Fashion Island - family of Rhyme Schemes, who won the Saratoga Special this year.
Hip 2939 - c. Runhappy x Forever Beautiful
Hip 2948 - c. Kitten's Joy x Glittering Tax - no photo or video for him but I'm a little surprised to see Miss Temple City's half brother. He really must be backwards.
Hip 2974 - c. Caravaggio x Irish Teardrop (GB) - he has a nice turf pedigree.
Hip 2985 - c. Higher Power x JP's Flashy Honey - pedigree is meh but I think he's nice looking.
Hip 3025 - c. Malibu Moon x Midtown Traffic
Hip 3057 - f. War Front x Odeliz (IRE) - don't usually see War Fronts this far into the sale.
Hip 3061 - f. Echo Town x Overboard - not really the greatest pedigree but she's nice looking.
Hip 3112 - c. Union Rags x Senada
Hip 3114 - c. Uncle Mo x Sequin - because Uncle Mo is having a very good sale.
Hip 3132 - f. Thousand Words x Starluna
Hip 3138 - c. Twirling Candy x Storm Showers
Hip 3147 - c. War of Will x Stunning Lady
Hip 3148 - f. Constitution x Succeeding - another from the Teeming female family.
Hip 3164 - f. McKinzie x Tapped
Hip 3186 - c. Caravaggio x Truly Mine - it's possible I just want this one to be my pony.
Hip 3196 - f. Catholic Boy x Unfold the Rose - no photo/video, but she's half to Stephanie's Kitten. Unfold the Rose hasn't really produced much besides her and Heywoods Beach, so I guess that's why she's so far back in the sale.

#2866 (Get Stormy — Charming She Is) had gotten to $2,000 but all bidders removed their bids so she left the ring at $0. there are no conformation shots of her and her page is pretty plain, but she didn't look... bad? i wonder what put buyers off of her so much.

same with this Honor Code, also got to $2,000 and then back to $0. page also empty, you can see through the 4th dam, but he also doesn't look horrible? not the most beautiful horse in the sale, but dang. must suck for the breeder.

How sad that this poor baby didn’t get any bids…but HC is a disaster

On a positive note, Honor A.P. has had 3 6 figure yearlings, along with some ok prices. Considering his sire and frankly unimpressive book, I’m very happy.

I hope they name the filly out of Joyeria that sold today for $65,000 - Alexandrite
